I don't think that you can assume that the difference is fixed and measurable -- I think that FSX performance is affected by a lot of things, and the operating system is well down the list.
But I'd always recommend Vista, because MS have learnt a lot about memory management since XP, especially when it comes to their own full-screen games. However this is dependant on the amount of RAM you have -- some people say that Vista requires more memory overhead. Drivers are also an issue -- good quality drivers for Vista are not always available yet, so it depends on your system. However Vista drivers will eventually surpass XP drivers.

And Vista has added security, which has to use resources, not to mention that I find it a bit of a pain in the neck.

I have a separate 160GB Sata 2 HDD setup with Win XP home and both FS-9 and FS-X setup on it and that is all I use this HDD for.
My CP has 3 other HDDs one which also has Win XP Home that I boot to for my normal computer work.
The PC consists of Asus A8N-SLI 939 MB, AMD Duel core FX-60 running 2610 MHz, 2.5GB DDR 400 Ram, Asus Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX with 512MB, Creative SB Audigy sound card, PSU 650W and running Flight sim through a Matrox TripleHead2Go.

yea, thats a big issue. and it does that annoying 'grey out' thing where everything stops and the screen dims while it asks "allow or cancel". really annoying when you have media center open and watching tv

Using both here and no problems with either smile.gif

Persevere guys! once Vista SP1 was released, things settled down a lot.

As for the "greying out" and asking questions about whether you wish to delete something - switch your User Account Control off!
We had a scenery designer/hoplist maker over on the WSP site who was having major issues with the UAC... more specifically if he started writing a .cfg with the UAC on, then switched it off and later on for whatever reason switched it back on, all of the changes he made to the .cfg or script file he was working with would disappear and he would be back at square one.

i use vista now, i agree, turn off the User Account control, it doesn't bother me anymore with all those stupid questions, fsx does seem to run slightly faster on vista sp1
In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose.
