Is this Laptop OK for FS?

I've been looking at laptops to buy to replace my PC as they're easier to carry around etc (duh) and seeing as we have wireless it means I could surf the net while lying on my bed or whatever, however I play FS around once a week so I'd still want to be able to do this.

Would this run FS9/FSX Acceleration well ('Well' meaning at least a steady 25FPS somewhere like FlyTampa Kai Tak in, say, PMDG's 744 with max AI traffic and Activesky on)? It would need to run ok at major airports as most of my flying is in airliners.

If this one isn't good, any suggestions otherwise?

Nah i wouldnt expect 25flps with those addons and this laptop ,pmdg is a heavy flp hungry addon chuck in a 20 flp scenery into that and you have a good slide show ,,that cpu in that thing is low end to me plus the 8400 gpu nah no way,, it would run but not what you would expect...
personally i would never get a laptop for gaming and i would always stick to desktops ,you can upgrade them yourself with new LCD newest gpu ,more ram cheap whatever really and to suit any budget anytime ...

Custom build your next PC. Dont go with a laptop, mine was running fs2004 and it ran like a snail.

Well the whole idea is that a PC is too big/bulky and not portable. I might have to give up on the FS part then.

Check around with companies like Playtech and see what they have to say. Who knows they might have just the PC or laptop for the job

Yeah i know thats what you are looking for mate but in the old days there is a example of laptop vs Pc with brownbox ,i think he ended up with a laptop but then ended up after alittle while after getting a PC desktop ,,yes you could just give FSim up ,if you can live with that ? i mean you mite aswell say that with most high end fun gaming ,all gone for the ease of having a pc on your lap ,if all that still out weight gaming and the reasons you have buy it ,just be sad to lose a gamer to a laptop and im not looking forward to your disspointment ..

You can get a Laptop that will do the job, but its going to cost you mega $$, probably in excess of $2500, when you could get a PC to do the exact same for only $1500 mabye.

Best option would be just to get both. Ive got this macbook that I use for everything, then my PC with nothing else on it but Flight Simulator. I dont play that much anymore as for school and stuff, but when I do in the holidays I get great performance because theres nothing to slow down my computer!

I payed 2800 for my laptop it cost me 3700 all up with addons and fsx products i have most of the pmdg aircraft they work well in nzwn nztg all my addons airports i don't have any ai aircraft except the fsx standard this is only because i haven't put any on yet trying to figure that out! i have a NEC 17inch screen processor 3.5GHz 3GB memory 32-bit operating system vista home premeium Ge Force 8400 GS graphics card I'm happy well worth it !!

If you want a navigation trainer 'laptop' .. no eye candy no fancy models 'laptop' ....( waiting for your flying lesson ) ...... talking reason within pricing ... For flightsim , if you enjoy the scale and share detail with both good aircraft and superb scenery , a good desktop is the only way to go . SIMPLE! .. put your $4000 dollars to something you going to increasingly enjoy as you add your collection .
Its not a race , its how you enjoy it and what you want from it .

Woah there! Don't make the same mistake as me!

I bought myself a mid range Dell laptop for traveling overseas, which I thought would double as a decent FS2004 laptop, but it can't run without lagging unless I fly out in the Pacific Islands with all the sliders down on the left- I'm simply dying to get back to my 'main' PC and load up a good flight. Sounds cheesy- but you don't know what ya got till it's gone!

Perhaps get a cheepy of trademe for surfing the net/sharing vids and music with your mates, but I'd seriously invest in a decent desktop one that can forfill a range of purposes too.

I agree with everyone else, you won't get a laptop that can do a great job on FS for cheap.
You can get a laptop that will play FS, but not play it well though.
And you can get a laptop that will play FS okay, but that would be a big, heavy, specialised gaming laptop.

I've done what Ben's done - I have a desktop for FS and other 'heavy lifting' and a laptop for internet, portable stuff and everything else.

Might keep my current PC then and delete everything except FS- should run it sweet. I could just buy a cheap laptop to surf the net/watch movies with, would ~$800 get me a reasonable one?
