Does anyone have much experience with flying clubs in Tauranga?

I may be moving down there soon (yeah I know, ANOTHER move) so will be looking to join one of the clubs to continue my flying- Im just looking for some advice or experience to help me guide my decision

hay timmo i trained at tg aero club 7-8 years ago then went to bay flight 6 years ago a lot if eagle and air nelson pilots come out of there and Phil hooker CFI/owner is the best experience A cat instructor in nz oh and penny from NAC i recomend Bayflight 9/10 if you have any more questions just ask

It doesn't really matter where you train as far as the airlines are concerned. Pick a place you like the feel of, it's you rmoney at the end of the day.
(I trained at NAC n 02/03 BTW)

Hey,

Well I have had flying lessons with two of the providers at Tauranga. I have learnt with Euroflight and the Aeroclub. The main three are:

Bayflight: The biggest flying school on the airfield. Phil Hooker (great guy) runs the place. I don't think you can go wrong with them.
Euroflight: Another pretty good place for flying with. They have 2 Cessna 150s, a 172 and an Air Tourer. Really nice and friendly there.
Tauranga Aeroclub: Pretty good if you like the more social and don't have a full time instructor on site. They have a C 152, Piper Warrior and can get others on request.

I would recommend Bayflight or Euroflight if you were wanting to do more full time but the Aeroclub is still good as you can participate in competitions, aeroclub activities etc

Theres the Microlight outfit too with a Tecnam - but I guess that dosent suit you Timmo

Thats all the a/c Tauranga Aero Club have?? Pretty pathetic for quite a biggish city.

with people like phil x air nelson cap and penny NAC a cat and well known in nelson you have a better chance of getting a career job training with a main school than aero club more areas to branch off from.
i flew at nztg aero club 2 years not much opportunity there but moved to bay flight then went to sunair and snowballed from there

OK i trained at NAC then did para drops first then went to TG aeroclub no jobs were available there went to bayflight got a job there went too sunair job there. now flying dash8-100/200/300 in australia here now doing simulator on f100 so that's just my experience

edit: snowballed.......got good job from good contacts from the main training providers.
just my opinion. there are heaps of good training institutes out there Timmo what ever one you choose you will Benefit from

who are you flying for now? im very interested in this thread as im currently at ardmore but once im done with ground school i may be heading back to tauranga as thats where my girlfriend and i are from. Plus i was thinkng that if i went to bay flight i may be able to get my time done a little quicker plus try my luck at sunair when i was finished

Ok thanks guys - Yeah I fly a 172 and would like to continue with that type until I finish my PPL

Any comments on the availability of aircraft and instructors?

What are rates like?

timmo i dont no what the rates are like now ring up laurance barnett leason manager at bayflight hee is real good o deal with 075752747 i think that is the number
