Wheels up in Afghanistan.

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby Bazza » Mon Oct 27, 2008 2:38 pm

This shot was sent to me by one of our (NZ) troops in Afghanistan, under the following question...

Q. "At what stage do you do "Wheels Up.?"

A. "In Afghanistan, as quickly as possible ! ! ! "

He says there are some pretty interesting aged Russian Helicopters there and will send some shots.

Not sure about that ... when I right clicked the properties of the shot I see it is a 2006 one. My email to the sender is difficult due to
censorship and sensitivities so I haven't had a chance yet to ask him. I sort of hoped that between you and Ian, your encyclopediac
knowledge would have solved it. My only clue is that it is said to be a C130H (for Harry.)

Cheers...

Great shot. Wheels up like that just after TO is pretty common with these, I used to see it all the time at Lyneham. Looks cool though doesn't it!

Don't think it's USAF - they have more 'graphics' around the nose and I don't think it's RAF either - all theirs have 3 digit tail numbers.........

' Have you ever notice that the experts who decree that the age of the pilot is over are people who have never flown anything? In spite of the intensity of their feelings that the pilot's day is over I know of no expert who has volunteered to be a passenger in a non-piloted aircraft..'
