I wanted to float an idea passed you all, just to gauge your opinion and see whether what follows is a viable idea and if anyone would be interested. I hope it's ok to do this Mods, if not please let me know.
I own a company call redfusion ltd – www.redfusion.co.nz We design & create precision laser cut and etched products using a variety of materials including acrylic, metal and wood.
The website itself is currently aimed at our current primary market which is events (weddings, parties, corporate hospitality etc) although don’t let this fool you
Some technical details and limitations:
• We can cut Acrylic up to approx 15mm thick (it may be more but I’ll have to confirm that)
• We are able to source just about any colour acrylic, most of these in various finishes i.e. matt and gloss.
• We also use specialist ‘two core’ acrylics i.e. etch through the top layer to reveal a different colour underneath OR the style that show through clear, for backlighting.
• We can also cut wood, leather, board, paper & card to name a few.
• As well as being able to cut the various materials above, we can etch onto just about anything – Acrylic, Wood, Stone, Anodised Aluminium, Other metals with the help of an etching paste, leather, ceramic, glass, board, paper & card.........
• The maximum size of material we can currently work with is: 610mm x 457mm (24in x 18in) this is the table size.
One of the key points to remember with regard to the product we can offer is the ‘precision’ part. Our laser is a specialist professional laser system from the USA and can cut and etch at up to 1000ppi (pulses per inch – equivalent to 1000dpi on a printer) and is configurable to conduct it’s tasking to fractions of a mm.
So there it is, all the technical info.
My reason for posting: In the short time I’ve been a member of this forum I have seen the passion that everyone here has for both Siming and Model Making and I know what an expensive hobby both are especially when you want to take things to the next level and embark on the journey of building Sims and custom models. The cost of building is in no way helped of course by the fact that sometimes materials, products and services are only available overseas. This is where I hope to be able to help with the services I can offer utilising the machinery we have. There may or course be no interest or requirement in what we can offer, however if there is i.e. etched panels, switch labels, model parts, templates etc etc and anything else you can think of that I haven’t, then please get in touch – We’re versatile, open minded and hopefully we’ll be able to help
