Eurotrip Flight Vids

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby ardypilot » Sun Nov 23, 2008 3:00 pm

Sorry it's taken me a little while to get these uploaded- I’ve only been back in the country for 10 days now, but already it feels like my eurotrip happened years ago- all my mates are off on university holidays so we've been out enjoying the good ole New Zealand summer sun and I haven't been home on the computer much- mind you, this time two weeks ago, it was minus 5 degrees outside in England, getting dark at 3 in the afternoon, and we couldn't go to the shops without a jacket and scarf on, so I reckon I've got a valid excuse!

Anyway, for all those who have been reading my blog, you would have seen that I've visited six different countries (Brunei, United Arab Emirates, England, Holland, Belgium, France and Germany) in the last four or so months, and, on the way, I've been recording vids from my aircraft travels.

However, I didn't bother including these in my main postings, as my other friends/family who were reading the blog wouldn't be interested in them, so this stuff below is just for the NZFF'ers:

Royal Brunei Airlines B767, landing at Bandar Seri Begawan, July 2008:

Same aircraft, landing at London Heathrow, England, two days later:

Easyjet A319, landing at Berlin Schönefeld airport, October 2008:

Rainy takeoff from LHR, (just to prove how scratched up my window was on this leg, meaning I failed to get any good photos on the flight) November 2008:

Night time descent and landing at Dubai, November 2008:

Runway 23L final approach into Auckland, November 2008:

And a few stills:

Comments/questions welcome.
Cheers!

Great record of the trip , Andrew.
I like to fly FS where I've flown RW - and often before, if I know exactly where I'm going.
I've done the central London holding flight many times in FS but never in RW for some reason, so I really enjoyed this shot of yours.

It has everything! Battersea, Houses of Parliament, Palace, the Eye, Tower Bridge...it could've come straight from a travel promotion montage!

Yeah ditto, before I left, I downloaded scenery for Brunei and Dubai, set it to the time and date I'd be arriving and flew the approaches there, so I knew what to look out for.

When I was younger, I always liked the idea of bringing a laptop into the aircraft and flying the route you're sitting on in real time, although on long haul I now realise that having a laptop running the whole time would be both pointless and annoying!

I'm actually now looking for a decent Schonefeld airport for FS9 and a A319 in Easyjet colors to recreate my October flights, and also some high def mesh for the North Yorkshire moors where they have quite a large gliding club and some interesting grass runways...

We were pretty fortunate to be sitting on the right hand side of the aircraft whilst flying in the holding circle- could see all the tourist landmarks in good detail which was a nice welcome to the city after a day and half on the plane. Funny thing was, in about another 26 hours after this photo was taken, we were down there in the city setting up our UK bank accounts watching other aircraft circling around- saw an A380 glide past Nelsons column which would have made a great photo, although only the statute head came out in focus, and not the aircraft behind it.
