NZ Warbirds Open Day, Ardmore Airfield

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby ardypilot » Mon Nov 24, 2008 1:11 pm

Just a heads up to those in the Auckland area, there will be a Pearl Harbor remembrance show/open day at Ardy on the 7th December.

Aircraft due to be there include Doug's MX-2, the two seater Spitfire, a P-40, Thunder Mustang, the Roaring 40's display team, the T-28, a Bird Dog and an aircraft just listed as 'RYAN', not too sure what that one is.

Can't find any info on the net about start times or show routines, but it sounds like a good excuse for a local NZFF meetup if anyones up for it!

Simon Gault told me about it, and I might be staying with him so seeing he is a master chef and share holder in the Thunder Mustang I should have some fun in the air and at the dinner table.
If I hear more I will let you know.

Gavin, I HATE YOU!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I wonder .... does he design the meals so they look OK 2nd time around, so to speak? winkyy.gif

I know USAF combat pilots get quite "choosey" about the colour combinations of their pre-flight meals! I was going to say "texture" as well, but we won't go there!!!

In addition to Simon bringing it up on the Wings over NZ Forum, it's also mentioned here: http://www.nzwarbirds.org.nz/ although there doesn't seem to be any other info yet.

Hi Guys,

I got sent a flyer in PDF format about the open day today... I have uploaded it to rapidshare (it is 1.2meg) as I cannot find a way to attach it to this subforum:

Re: Sunday, 7th December 2008

Please be advised between 12 noon and 4pm on Sunday, 7th December 2008 the New Zealand Warbirds will be holding an open day at Ardmore Airport. There will be an aircraft display practice between 1.30 & 2.30pm. A notam will be issued in due course.

If you have any further queries please contact Paul Wallbutton on 021 783 958.

And also...

New Zealand Warbirds association is seeking volunteers to help on the day; if this is you send me an email with your contact number.
Simon Gault: thunderm@xtra.co.nz

Anyone who puts their name on the list (by e-mail or other method) to help out on the day and turns up at the appointed briefing time- 0900 hrs will go into a draw for a free half hour in Harvard 92 , which John Walton has generously offered to provide.

Anyone know if there wil be some sort of designated parking area at the airfield at Ardmore for the Warbirds open day, or is it first in, less of a walk?

Are NZFF'ers going to be wearing silly hats, badges or something? I know the names (nicknames, rather) but I won't know the faces! And ... no ... that's NOT my pic an my avatar (honest!!) winkyy.gif

For "Identikit" purposes only, here's one of me ... not sitting in a Spitfire or anything ...

... going greyer by the minute sad.gif

Mike ran a print through a while back... must have been about a year ago? That said, there might be a bit of demand for them now. Humm, I'm thinking... rolleyes.gif

Even if not the T-shirts ... some badges would do. Cheaper too!
