Adjusting spot distance in FSX

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

This may sound crazy, but I have been unable to work out how to adjust the viewing distance in spot view. It's simple in FS9, however, in FSX??? I'm not sure if it is because I am using a TripleHead2Go and NaturalPoint Trackir or I'm just losing it. It hasn't worried me in the past and I just flagged it away. Now though, I'm getting quite frustrated. Can anyone help please.

Normally its just + or - but I'm not sure with TrackIR in spot view. If it doesn't work (+,-) then press 'backspace' first and try again...should work

You mean the first view you get on pressing "S"? ie. NOT the "fixed" view you get (after the Tower view). I have TrackIR Pro and the + - and Backspace keys work fine and don't conflict. Having said that, I can't remember if they work when I'm in TrackIR "active" mode. I don't use it as much as I used to ... mainly because of the snorts and giggles from HER winkyy.gif

My flatmates laugh at me when they see me using my TrackIR cap, they thought it was my lucky flying hat! rolleyes.gif

Then I tried to explain to them that it was an Infrared tracking system that emitted light on to three fixed refelective tracking points on the cap, this was then used to calculate my head position and through the software was able to track inputs from my head movements into scaled movements of my POV the virtual cockpit in Flightsim.....then said....on second thoughts....its my lucky flying hat.... laugh.gif

I think what Tuisong was wanting to know was not how to zoom in and out in spot view, but actually move the position of the camera relative to the aircraft. The short answer, and the only one I can give unfortunately, is no, as far as I'm aware there is no longer a way to move the distance of the viewpoint from the aircraft. That, and the movable tower view, were very annoyingly and for reasons unknown to me, taken away in FSX. I really miss being able to place a tower-view on roads near my landing/TO aircraft and looking at my place from 'people-on-the-ground' perspective.

Ctrl-+ and Ctrl-minus change the distance from your aircraft. Just the plus and minus keys change the angle of view.

It's been a while now since my FS9 days, but I also miss the flexibility of views I (think) I had then. I'm thinking of buying DBS "Walk & Follow" as I can't seem to find a freeware equivalent (for FSX) that works. I'll just put it down to the "it's gotta help me win a screenshot comp" slush fund!
