Not sure how long for, but at the moment theres a DC-8 parked up at the freight apron at NZAA.

Would love to have seen (or heard) it coming into land!

Nice. Just checked on AVSIM and there's an AI model there for a HeavyLift DC8

What will most likely be the most exotic visitor for December was the arrival of Heavylift Douglas DC8-63F A6-HLC c/n 46126 at Auckland around 0200LT from Taipei via a techstop at Brisbane as HVL401 carrying stage equipment for the upcoming Kylie Minogue concert's. A6-HLC was delivered to Air Canada in April 1970 as CF-TIV and withdrawn from service as C-FTIV in April 1983. It was then converted to a freighter for Evergreen International as N819EV in 1988 before moving to ABX Air in March 1990 as N812AX. It was with them until March 2008 when it moved to Heavylift International and bacame A6-HLC. The aircraft was damaged in a heavy landing incident 01Sep this year at Al Fasher Airport, Darfur, Sudan. Substantial damage was incured to the left main landing gear requiring a complete replacement.

Very strange , i think it was Calcorp that re-engined super63s and 73s with a CFM turbofan , very surprised to see it using the older low bypast fan

Well if you're within 10km of it going out, there'll be no mistaking what it is.
Didn't know any of those pure jets were still allowed into commercial airports!
And if you are a little further away, just look for what looks like smoke from 4 Sabre jets in close formation

Wish they still made planes like that, what a beauty, if I had a choice between a dirty old DC-8 freighter and a 777 it would be no competition.

Nice - real planes make noise and have a flight engineer in the cockpit !! and from the did you know files - a DC-8 was the first airliner to break the speed of sound in 1961 !!

It was ! the forgotten fact , good pointing Deane ... this lead to Convair using the 880/990 as the fastest type in airline service for the future , in real it did,nt matter , i wasnt like the Concorde but to the ill informed passenger ... he thought he got there cutting hours off the persons travel times .

If it was here just for KM's gig, which were on Monday and Tuesday nights according to the Vector Areana website, then I expect it will be flying out sometime today, if it has not already left.

Just looking at the 'coming events' page, we may expect to see quite a few other large transport jets and/or private jets for high profile entertainers coming to Auckland in 2009!
