Yeah - I enjoyed those shots too! Not sure why, but I prefer the Airbus over the Boeings. Maybe I'm just anti-American winkyy.gif

One thing though (if I may be so bold) - it looks like you may be over-doing the jpeg compression a bit. You could stand to go up a bit in quality. The filesize would still be OK - but your pics would come up in all their glory! What setting do you use when you save?

Maybe it's the save from MS Paint that's doing it. When you [re]save them in MS Paint - before you upload them to Photobucket ... what are your settings? Looking at the pic properties, they're 1024px * 640px and are weighing in at a mere 32k ... that's *tiny*. You could easily have these at around 120k ... which is FOUR times the quality!

Wait ... I've just tried resaving a .bmp to .jpg format in MS Paint .... I don't see any options there to set jpeg image compression/quality (85% being generally what I use). Ummm ... not good! Have you ever thought of trying a shareware/freeware pic editor? Loads of them around ... Paint Shop Pro being the most powerful I think. IrfanView is another popular one. Seems a shame not to show your screenies in all their glory.

Yes, lots of JPEG compression!

Great shots though, I hope you can fix that problem up and post more shots!!

One of the other NZFFers recommended that I use IFRANview to get higher quality screenshots, and now I use it all the time. Gives a much larger file size to start, which photobucket then reduces to the right size, so it lets me post better quality screenshots than before.

Their website is:-

http://www.irfanview.com/

(I have no connection with them!!)

smooth landings.

I tend to work out how large I want the image to appear (in NZFF) ... ie. usually around 800px wide - then reduce (and sharpen if necessary) *before* I upload to Photobucket (which will probably not then need to shrink your pic). That way you totally control what happens to the final image.

Waka - I see this thread has an fsx.gif label ... you do know that pressing "V" at any time saves a full size/full quality screenshot? It'll be in some weird place - depending on your o/s (XP/Vista etc.), but somewhere in your "My Documents" folder (I think). It's what I do - no need for any fancy screen-grabbing utility - or ALT-TABbing to some paint program.

Just a rough guess: Your [very] compressed file is currently around 34k ... while an 85% quality file of the same image would probably be around 120k (ie. perfectly acceptable for a web page - but much better quality).

The various graphic programs show different things in the dialog box when you save the image. Some will automatically show you the expected filesize, based on the level of compression you select. If it doesn't show it, try some tests (at various compression/quality settings) then check to see what sizes the files are. Some (like Photoshop) also show you a preview of what your image would look like when compressed.

As a general rule, 75% or 85% is usually OK.
