Has the US ANG run out of medium lift capacity, to have to get an aircraft from halfway round the world?

Mike Condon (as in MRC) runs it dosent he??

I think the Safair L100 was here on an Italian Antarctica charter.

L100 generally in every year/season and even have a IL76 Candid stop regular .

Hi Guys
The Herc is on ops for the Italian Antarctic operation although it appears only one trip to their Terra Nova base this season which is odd, the remainder of flights to Pegasus/McMurdo (where it currently heading for). The NY ANG Herc's seem to be fairly quiet with the modified machine 83-0492 already gone back to the USA along with 76-3301. The C17 has made a couple of drops at the South Pole in the last week or so also.

Its good to see my blog receiving favourable comments. I like to keep things clear and concise. Another blog I/we have running is about civil aircraft in NZ, www.nzcivair.blogspot.com. Its linked off my blog and run in conjunction with the register man Dave Paull.

Yay, at last I've found you! I've been a reader of your blog for a while now. I've always wondered where on earth you get such a wide array of information from. I'm based in Palmerston North and have, on occasion, heard a jet in the sky (not such a common sound here these days) that didn't get a mention on MRC Aviation. In most cases, it's an ANZ divert, but a few times it's been either the AWK B732 or even an RAAF C-17 on one occasion. Do you work mostly by reports from trusted sources at each airport? I could probably give the odd bit of info as I seem to have my eyes or ears open for unusual sights/noises in the skies most of the time.

There is a surprising number of people reporting activity but namely its just two of us keenly tracking stuff to the lunatic extent at which we do! Drop me a note at area51nz@hotmail.com. The jets at Palmy could well be the odd Macchi out for a run, they still cycle them through on a planned basis to keep the cobwebs at bay!

We're always interested in anything going on with Fieldair, and interestingly I see that a BN Islander which was registered to them has been cancelled from the register, ZK-FIF. This machine came in from Fiji as DQ-FIF (by crate) and sat at Hamilton for ages before being slung under a Mil 8 and "flown" south to Palmerston North. Its obviously been refurbished and now sold - to somewhere abroad!

Love the blog and dont miss a post! I'm based at Palmerston North Airport for most of my days, so if I see anything interesting happening over at the Fieldair Hangar I'll drop you a line.

As for the jets in Palmy greaneyr, they are the Macchi's from Ohakea. They have been known on occasion to do some circuits at Palmy and make one hellava noise in the process!!

On occasion, yes, though I've been hearing those things long enough to know one when I hear one. Generally, I think the jets I'm hearing are either Airwork's 732, ANZ 733 diverts or charters, or as I say, the occasional C-17. I saw one at one stage too (not sure if it landed though). It certainy got a few heads turning on the street!

I'll drop you an email next time i hear something non macchi and non air nz.

Fieldair's a tricky one since all their traffic is generally prop-driven so is unlikely to grab my attention. Still, i do make a few trips to the airport so if I see anything new show up, I'll be sure to let you know.
