A good time to buy electrical in NZ?

Me and my brother are buying a LCD monitor....in fact a Samsung 2253BW, there's a very good price ATM, but I'm greedy and am wondering if prices will down even further? What do you think?

I'd say *hang on*! When suppliers realise that the economic situation has totally stuffed up their biggest profit-making period of the year, they'll start *really* panicking. I do a couple of websites for travel companies - and they're all reporting a 30-35% drop in sales. That's 35% of a company's profit gone up in smoke (as all the overheads will still be the same).

I bought a couple of LCD monitors not long after they came in. We were persuaded to buy the second as we were told "they'll never be cheaper". Well .. they've *halved* in price since then!!

Don't count on prices moving lower in the near future. The main factor affecting prices of electronics in new zealand is the new zealand dollar. For example the mouse that I brought earlier this year retailed for US$60. On a strong NZ dollar (US$0.75) this cost me $80. Now that the NZ Dollar is floating around US$0.52 the same mouse now costs $112. This is without any market factors or price adjustments from the retailer. Addmittedly the dollar is bound to increase again, but do you know when? If you see a good price now, especially retail sales after christmas, go for it.

A quick look at Pricespywill show the wide range of prices, depending on how you buy -- of course the expensive retailers have more room to drop prices, the lowest prices are more indicative of how low you can go and still make money. However the lowest prices here tend to come from tiny outfits which don't keep huge amounts of stock, so they won't be having a liquidity sale...

Those retailers with too much stock may be dropping prices a little, but with the NZ$ at its lowest for a while, their next shipment may be 20% more expensive.

Nick I am looking at the Viewsonic VX2262WM 2ms 22" monitor. The Samsung does seem to have some bleed issues around the edges. It is good value on Pricespy too.

In fact I have just ordered it now and if it is any good possibly another.

I just keep an eye out on www.ozbargin.com.au , and they often post specials or deals using vouchers and what not. Only thing I had to do was use a voucher, and order it through the small business website.

Oh well, enjoy the small 22"

I had considered a 24" or even bigger but I have opted for 2 x 22". Should be able to fit on the desk then.

Do you think full HD1080 is worth it if my graphics card only has DVI outputs?

I paid about $400 for the original monitor so I'm guessing an alternate one would have to be about the price to swap it.

Yeah. Im running 1080p using DVI. Its great- I wouldnt have any issues about it.

Can your system+video card support 1600 x 1200 ? May be worth sourcing a cheap(ish) LCD that'll do that <?>.

My work monitor is a standard widescreen LCD, but my FS monitor is an old (but still very sharp) CRT that shows FSX in all its glory at 1600 x 1200. No wonder my framerates are cr*p!

Yeah, if you run it at 1920x1080, your flight sim will cut the frame rates down ALOT.
