Just saw five Seasprites cruising overhead Auckland city in a v formation with a smaller blue and yellow civilian looking chopper flying along side. Anyone know what was going on??

Perhaps they were proving they actually have five, functioning Seasprites?

Perhaps they're getting ready to invade Fiji.

Yes....our armed forces (ha Ha...oops sorry Ho Ho) do a fly past every year before they break
up for the Christmas /summer holidays for 6 weeks.
It is done in the hope that it will scare any potential invader away from who may be watching !!
There's nothing quite like a show of force to scare our enemies.

Well done 6 Sqn and if 3 Sqn make 19 helos, that would mean every Huey and Sioux. As most of you are aware aircraft require a lot of maintenance (both scheduled and unscheduled). This coupled with deployments and overseas exercises means it is extremely rare for a Squadron to have all their aircraft at home base, let alone serviceable. From time to time when this occurs a push to get everything airborne makes not only good photo opportunities, but also aircrew training and its a huge amount of satisfaction to the groundies, who usually have to work very hard to make it happen. When I was on 5 Sqn we had all six orions airborne and it was a quite a big deal. I've seen (heard) 14 hueys and the noise is something else. 9 Andovers was good too.
