Didn't Ansett operate the type before they went out of business?

Yep definitely. They had Dash 8-100s (One was -VAC) and BAe 146s. Dad's got some awesome pics from the delivery flight of one of Ansett's brand-new 146-300s. I think Mount Cook operated them for a while with reasonable success. The main problem for Ansett was that the 146 pilots tried to keep up with 737s, which caused much higher fuel burn than normal.

I guess thats why Ansett went out of business biggrin.gif . I think its good that the 146 is back in NZ skies.

Trolly, the photo you have of the Whisper is outside one of the Air National hangers in Convair Alley next to Air Center One's FBO and the Network Jets hanger.

That would have been Airwork's 737 (ZK-NQC). Maybe since NQC is getting repainted in DHL colours that is a sign that it will be a dedicated freighter, hence opening up the opportunity for someone like Air National to step in with a pure jet.

NQC is still available for passenger charter work. It's actually owned by Express Couriers Ltd (NZ Post) which is 50% owned by DHL hence the yellow colour scheme.

It will end up replacing NQC. Most of NQC's work was to secondary airports such as Blenheim and Rotorua, where a BAe 146 is the better aircraft (shorter take off/landing distance etc). NQC may still be a Combi, but what passenger is going to want to fly on a plane with DHL Freight colours emblazoned on the side?

From memory the BAe146 doesn't have airstairs and I know alot of airports got rid of theirs when the '146's stopped flying in NZ....wonder how they'll get the people off as almost all airports won't have any and B737 stairs are alot higher off the ground. Guess they've thought about that?!

1) The 737-200 will do anything a 146 will but even better

2) NQC is not a combi it's a QC and can not be operated as a combi

3) when you charter an aircraft for 100 people they don't care what colour the aircraft it is so long as it's a jet. 99% can't tell the difference between types.

Items 4 and 5 I'm not allowed to discuss in a public forum.
