Pilot Life Insurance

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

I guess the title pretty much says it all……

Can anyone recommend a reputable company that offers specialist Life cover to private pilots? I know you’re covered (or should be) when flying club a/c etc for damage to the a/c itself and 3rd parties but I actually want to insure myself, which in most cases isn’t covered my club policies. My current Life Insurance explicitly precludes flying from the cover (unless on a commercial / scheduled flight) so I want to get something sorted.

Cheers

Good luck... if you find someplace, you will be looking at $$$$$$

I have no idea, given that:

# of people who die in car accidents per year > # of people who die in light aircraft accidents per year

But that is the way Insurance companies work I guess dry.gif

Not sure if they are any good, but try Avsure...

Yeah I know where you're coming from - Insurance companies suck........ However, unfortunately, it is something that 'could' happen and unlike if I was damaged or broken in a car accident my family would get nothing if the same happened whilst flying! If I can I'd like to try and find a way around this.

I'm with FidelityLife, they offer pretty good premiums (in my opinion anyway) and are fairly reasonable.

Do they specifically cover while GA Flying? Most insurance companies do not... and I cannot see anything on their site about it...

To be honest i'm not 100% sure, i'll have to dig out my policy however I do know my premium is slightly higher due to the fact I do a bit of GA flying.

Further to this.......

I spoke to BNZ insurance a couple of days ago about having the 'aviation' exclusion lifted on my life cover. They're sending me a GA questionnaire in the post. I'll let you know the outcome if anyone's interested.

I might have to take this up with my Insurance Broker and find out what my options are... I tried the AvSure route, they passed my details on to some guy, who called once to check a couple of things and then never called back...

Customer Service? We've heard of it... dry.gif

lol....exactly the same thing has happened to me with AvSure!! It wasn't Neil Clerk who called you was it? I returned his call.....haven't heard from him since.

Makes you wonder what they'd be like if it ever came to a pay out doesn't it.

UPDATE: I filled in the GA form that was sent to me and returned it at the end of October. Spoke to BNZ Insurance today as I hadn't heard anything. I was told that the Aviation Exclusion that had previously been in place on my policy had been removed at no cost and I was now covered for Life, Critical & Accident in General Aviation. Bonus! biggrin.gif

Guess not. Incidentally, I still haven't heard from him...........

At least I'm covered by BNZ now though.

Us too. Well you should be ok then as it's the 'mortgage' life insurance policy I'm covered by. If I remember correctly I stated that I'd be doing approx 75 - 100 hrs max per year, non commercial obviously etc etc
