That seems like a fair price...as I say, I think Pearl are sometimes overpriced for what they are (still nice kits though- I played a Export series from High School through Uni until I got my current kit, which, to be honest im not too happy with...hard to tune and not the sound I like. Could just be the heads I have on it though). Ive yet to see a Yamaha that was 'junky'....they generally make very high quality, well researched, good sounding kits. I think my next kit will be a Yamaha.

I currently play one of these but with Pearl Hardware and a mixture of Zildjian A, A custom, K custom and Z symbols.

Go for it!

NICE !! I love the products tama come out with, give me a starclassic maple or bubinga any day !! I know their rockstars had a lot of base wool in the shells and just a few plys (outer and inner) of mahogany which is a pretty average blend... I think they swaped the mahogany plys with birtch in this (presuming it is a superstar ??) but still a lot of bass wood, correct ??
What sort of heads are you using ?

Yeah its a Superstar EFX. From memory its 1 or 2 plies of birch with bass wood. Im still using the standard skins since I haven't it too long but....yeah they are junk (as usual) I just cant get the tom and bass drum sounding right. I want it rich and warm....all I can get is either tight and cold or sloppy.

This year I haven't been playing much because my flat is quite small and has thin walls- Ive been doing a lot of brush playing though

After a lot of searching - this is what I'm close to buying trademe - because of the bulk I need to find something within driving range of Blenheim.
Not keen on the colour but seems like a fairly good kit for the price ?

Not sure if you're a console man Deane, but the latest version of Guitar Hero comes with a drum set which is a lot of fun, and quite a bit cheaper than the real kits you're looking at!

Nope - I want the real deal - although that looks like fun.

Sure did - the colour is a lot darker in real life and looks ok actually. Gave it all a good clean and polish and have had fun so far.

Yeah the heads are a bit battered and they are Tama ones so I assume original, with a Remo on the snare. Not sure what to buy to replace in the future? Can't afford Remo all round.

I just bought one of these to replace my accoustic kit (which is up for sale on TM by the way).....

Pretty cool....there are lots of things to keep you interested and learning (built in metronome and a type of graph which measures where your hit lies in respect to the metronome...good for getting your timing right, heaps of built in songs as well as heaps of kits etc). They are pretty expensive though. $3.5k for one of these!

Very cool kit Timmo. Well I'm slowly learning. My 8 y/o son is having lessons during the week and I'm away in Wellington during the week, so only home at the weekends to try and keep up with him !! Good fun and really enjoying it.
