XBox 360

I bought an XBox 360 for the family this Xmas and still getting my head around it. Also bought COD 5 and, also getting my head around FPS gaming using a controller as opposed to a mouse and keyboard! I was quite good using the old fashined method and suck at using the twin joysticks Can you connect a keyboard and mouse up?

I want to store mp3's and videos on its hard drive, worked out how to stream from the PC which is cool but I would like it to be more stand-alone so I don't have to tie up my PC to play sounds etc. Any ideas? I think I can rip from CD but don't want to have to convert all my mp3s to CDs and then rip back to the XBox.

I've logged in with XBox live - gamer tag is "Splattyzee" Add me if you like ...

Any other hints would be greatly appreciated!

I've actually given up ripping to my Xbox, mainly because I have an old 20GB drive and space is limited, now I tend to stream from the PC only, which works very well for me. Only ripping audio CDs is a real limitation, that's for sure. However there is a very simple way to play MP3s -- play from a USB drive. If streaming didn't work so well for me, I'd devote a USB drive just for this -- I've done it before for a short time when I shifted, and had to survive unconnected for a couple of months:)

You can also play directly from your MP3 player, but, again, not being able to transfer MP3s directly is a pain.

Welcome to the dark side, get hold of Halo 3 which will teach you the best and quickest way to get to grips with the controller -- once you finish that, you'll be a controller convert. COD might work against you if it's your first go with a controller, but do persevere.

I'll add you to Live, but probably won't get to play you online until you get Guitar Hero!!! (ChldrnOfTheKorn)

I can't get my Xbox and my PC to communicate down the network so I gave up. So far all I've done is put one Pink Floyd cd onto the hard drive, so I can't give you any advice there. I've added you too - "Flyguy76" has sent you a request (add me too if you like Robin, though I don't have guitar hero!)

I have COD3 and 4, but have played 5 on a friend's PS3 and didn't really like it, so I won't be getting it. COD4 ROCKS as does Halo 3 (I'll be pre-ordering Halo Recon when it comes out)

You'll have heaps of fun with the 360!!

I played CO4 through on the PC, a neighbour has it and I've played the first few levels again but it's the same as the PC game so I didn't want to buy it. I'm still cr@p until I get the controller sorted - Halo 3 sounds like the go!

I don't own a 360, but I regally play Halo3 on my next door neighbors one- that's awesome fun on multiplayer.

I'll find out his Live ID so you guys can add us if you feel like a game.

And yeah, COD4 rocks on PC, I've head it was built by the same team that made #2, but #3 and #5 were done by different designers or with different engines or something?

I'm quite enjoying COD5 - I prefer the WW2 aspect to shoot em ups over the modern weapons, BUT it is quite a bit Americanised (well so far, only done a few missions). The soldiers are all gung-ho hero type, you normally get less heroism in WW2 games and more humble-pie type of character if you get what I mean

Keep in mind the storyline from Halo three is continuing on from where the first two games left off Wish you lived down here and I would lend you them!

You are right, of course -- I recommended Halo 3 as an example of a game which uses the controller particularly well, but that applies to all the Halo games, and if this was an area which interests you (as opposed to 'realistic' war games) then by all means play all three in order. You can buy the original Xbox version of Halo as a download via Live -- 1200 MS points, from memory, but bear in mind that this was developed for the old Xbox, and Halo 3 represents a fully mature Xbox 360 game better.

I've played them all, and loved them all.
