Celebrating our history

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby kiwibarguy » Wed Feb 04, 2009 3:44 pm

Since there are so many websites out there i was wondering if anyone knew of one that documents day by day New Zealand or World aviation history.
If for example it's a certain plane's birthday or maybe the end or anniversary of one, we could hold online flights to celebrate it. Airport's birthdays, famous pilots, etc...

If anyone knows one or is keen to fly online to celebrate or remember certain events , post your thoughts or suggestions and let me know! We have alot of new and old members who i'm sure must be keen to meet online to bring our forum closer together.

I'm defenitively with you on this. Some historical flights of Devons, HS748's or even DC-7's would be just great! I'll have a look around and let you know if i find anything. plane.gif

My first hit : 31 March 1903 - Richard Pearse achieved the first powered take-off in New Zealand at Waitohi, near Temuka. huh.gif That was 106 years ago....

I think we should "officially" contact them(as NZFF) and ask for some resources or probably a diary.

Well, as usual this wikipedia index article is a good place to start, and if you're near a library check out the books "Conquering Isolation" and Nac: The Illustrated History of New Zealand National Airways Corporation, both are excellent reads and cover NAC, Air New Zealand and loads of other NZ aviation happenings.

Re the re-creation flights, cool idea, wonder if VATNZ would be interested in organising a series of retro fly-ins?

Thanks for the Wiki link deeknow! Yeah it's a good place to start. Is there any particular date that anyone feels is important to New Zealand's history?
