Colombian DC-3 Explosion

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby ardypilot » Sat Feb 21, 2009 1:54 pm

This was on the world news front page of the Dominion Post yesterday:

A Colombian police DC-3 plane is seen split in two after an explosion which left 8 police officers injured as they boarded the plane at the Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin, Antioquia Department, Colombia on February 18, 2009. The causes of the explosion are yet to be determined. AFP PHOTO/Raul ARBOLEDA

...bugger!

Turbine powered or not, what a waste, and a most undignified end to a beautiful old "Gooney Bird".

You'd have to say foul play must be on everone's minds with this.

Just a hunch - the words Police & Colombia - almost hand in hand with drugs & crime.

A really sad end to an elegant workhorse.

I'm keen to hear the rest of the story?!

The Dominion Post article said that for now the cause is believed to be a hand grenade that went off in one of the officers' luggage. I read it a few days ago, they had some witty pun about exploding bags as the headline winkyy.gif

A single hand grenade did that? I don't think so!
