C5 Galaxy at NZCH

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Hi everyone, I was lucky enough to get a look around inside a USAF C5A Galaxy tonight. Took 40 pictures from top to bottom, and you can view the album here:
C5 Galaxy photos

It flies out tonight to Hawaii so unfortunately if you didn't see it, it's probably gone by now.. Should be back next year! (when the Antarctic program begins to pack up)

I heard it come in 2 days ago...had a look outside and couldn't really make it out (was dark), but I knew it had to be a galaxy cause of the noise. Then yesterday I saw it go out...must of only been about 2000-3500ft over Kaiapoi when it went over.

Ahhhh so it left to the north. My friend in Hornby was waiting to see it leave to the south but I guess the winds changed. Thanks for your reply Peppermint winkyy.gif

Cheers for the link Ali- wish those big USAF birds frequented Auckland rather than Christchurch!

You guys always seem to get the more interesting ice craft down your way, and with Welly gets all the VIP foreign dignitaries... all we are left with up north are the occasional heavy lifers for touring band's stage gear!

Auckland however has such interesting scheduled traffic. It's a miracle to catch one of these things in town! But yes, we are lucky to get to see these awesome things flying over the city from time to time. I pull over in traffic just to watch the C17s fly over! laugh.gif
