Gents

Iâ€™ve got a pair of David Clark H10-60 which Iâ€™d like to have modified to add/include Electronic Noise Cancelling. Iâ€™ve previously seen companies on-line that offer this service but wondered if any of you guys knew of anyone in particular that comes recommended?

And, out of interest, what head sets do you all use?!?

Sorry i cant help with your question, but the headset i use is the ANR Pilot PA18-50 it does the trick.

I know that feeling... I got the demo unit from Phil Jones at SpecialFX (based in Te Awamutu) for a week... took it on one of my solo cross country flights when getting my PPL unrestricted and it was fabulous...

I had done the math at the time and he was just under $50 more than if I ordered from overseas and paid shipping etc... so was all set to support the local guy... Unfortunately, while I was slowly saving up the $$$ to order one, the NZD plunged through the floor

There were around NZ$1150ish and now listed on his site for NZ$1838.25

How do you find the PA-18-50, I know it's a cheapie ANR headset, does it stack up against other ANR's very well?

I have both the Lightspeed Zulu and a Bose ANR and find them very equal in performance. I have had the Lightspeed for a year or so and the Bose for 3 months. I really don't rate one over the other at all. I can recommend either one if you are looking at a high quality ANR. You really do get what you pay for with ANR and i have found that add on ANR units give poor performance. Don't get me wrong, they are an improvement over passive headsets, but they chew batteries. I have had my old helmet retro fitted with ANR also but not happy with it so will look at a new helmet that has built in ANR. I'm leaning towards a Gallet i think.

I tried the Clarity Aloft headset for a few days when I was at the Walsh. It had very good noise attenuation, weighed like bugger-all and didn't get in the way of my glasses and stupid hats when flying. Might get one.....

My homemade job is essentially a copy of the Clarity Aloft...

And yeah, the weight and comfort are big plusses... the only real hassle, with mine anyway, is the mess of cables

Plus you really need to take your time putting the earplugs in, as without a perfect fit, they just don't provide the noise attenuation.

So they're not quite as simple as throw it on your head and adjust the mic boom... but the comfort factor is A++++
