Removing FS9 default Auckland Harbour Bridge

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby ZK-LGD » Fri Mar 06, 2009 7:11 pm

I'm in the process of retrograding New Zealand back to the 1950s using Bill Lyon's "Golden Wings" as my palette.

Unfortunately, the default Auckland Harbour bridge is proving rather stubborn in that it is unable to be deleted via any exclusion tool. Therefore, it obviously needs to be removed at the .bgl level.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the correct .bgl to edit, and the necessary tools needed to do the job.

TIA.

Hi Dorian.

Its been many years since ive seen a default FS9 Auckland, but if memory serves me corretly,.... there ISN'T a default harbour bridge at Auckland.
The bridge you have could only come from either the "Auckland 2005" scenery, or "RealNZ Auckland City". ( if you have them installed).
The other possibility is the RBE NZ Topo scenery. It places bridges all over NZ, using FS9 default bridge components.
You can remove the bridges, but you would need to ask Christian which files to remove.
I also have trouble excluding them with normal exclude programs for some of my sceneries.
I have however come up with a compromise removal system for the ones i want to get rid of,...........
Using Abacus EZ Scenery, i simply place an object directly along the bridges centreline ( i use a long wooden fence), and sink it below the surface of the ground or water. Next time you restart FS and go there,....... the bridge is gone.......

Hi Lawrie,

Yep; it was the RBE Topo. Thanks.

Pity of it is "Golden Wings" does not seem to want to play nicely with add-on roads, anyway (getting CTDs since installing a heavily modified NZ Topo). It's all very experimental at the moment (and may just get scrapped).

Dorian

Hmmm,........... bummer if you have to scrap all that work Dorian ........... sad.gif
Ive always wanted to "turn back the clock" so to speak , in my sim,........ but just never seem to have found the time to do it.
Ive got flyable aircraft, and AI aircraft for times gone by,....... but its all the scenery work and changes to be done,..... Aye aye aye....

Just meant the "Golden Wings" component would have to be scrapped. It's easy to switch on/off particular elements of NZTopo (thanks! Christian) that are truely modern. The real challenge, however, is obtaining information (from the 1950s-60s) to redesign local city LandClass to lay over the top of Christian's NZLandClass. Will have to visit NZ Archives and see what I can dig up.
