Jobs Going - Pukekohe Circuit 13-15 March

A forum for everything else that does not fit into the other categories

RATS next big effort will be the NZV8 round at Pukekohe on Fri 13 to Sun 15 March. People needed for Pit Lane jobs - exactly the same thing we did for the support classes at the A1GP meeting at Taupo (i.e. wander up and down watching) but without a lot of the pressure.

Classes running are NZV8, Toyota Racing Series, Porsche GT3, Production Racing Series, Formula Ford and Mini Challenge.

If you can do all three days that's awesome. If you can only do the weekend or even just one day that's still good - it all adds up and when we're in charge of things like we are there we like having enough people to let some wander around with cameras. Lunch is normally supplied but not water.

There is an age limit in pit lane because it's a hazardous area, it's normally 15 or 16 but there is a bit of leeway for people a little bit younger than that who are keen and look old enough to be there.

Replies here or by PM please.

Thanks
Gary

We could still use a couple more people for this, the job essentially is wandering up and down Pit Lane looking at what's going on.

All days, one day, two days, take your pick. You either need to be 16 or look as though you are 16.

Any takers ?

Absolutely ! The meeting runs Friday to Sunday, whatever days you can manage will be good.

Ashton and pilot.masman are coming up, maybe you could carpool ?

Plan to meet at BP Bombay at 0730 all days to collect passes. We won't get told a time until the last second but that's normally what it ends up being, it allows us plenty of time to get to the track and stand around yawning and wanting coffee laugh.gif

PM or email (chairman at ihug dot co dot nz) or text me (021 833 2oo) with names and days.

Here's the guts of the standard-email-to-newbies smile.gif

What to wear - black or dark pants, black polo shirt, proper shoes. Trainers are fine. What not to wear - shorts, open footwear, shirts with ford/holden stuff on them (we're supposed to be neutral).

What to bring - water, pen and paper, whistle, PRS radio or scanner with an earpiece if you have one, earmuffs are always good.

Weather - Pukekohe has its own unique weather patterns. We don't get a lot of 'perfect' days there, it's generally either scorching hot with no breeze or pelting with rain with a freezing gale along pit lane. On a really good day it'll change frequently between the two ...

Cameras - No if you're in a hiviz vest and supposed to be working, but fine when you've got the vest off. The NZV8s will be in the pit garages, if you are wandering around with a camera and no vest on that will be the only place you have trouble going although you should be ok on the grass on the other side of the lane. The best infield view of the track is from the hill by pit entry where the trailers get parked.

What you'll be doing - basically just watching things in Pit Lane. You're looking for stuff like people working under cars with no axle stands, refuelling without an extinguisher handy, kids, sandals and jandals, smoking, things rolling out into the hot lane during pitstops, that sorta thing ... For the support races the service vehicles and pit crews come in and out in convoys, there's a bit of arm waving involved getting them in and out. There may be some pit stop observing but it's not normal for this sort of meeting.

Thanks
Gary

Hiya

I'm looking for someone to keep me company in the start line flag box for the Historic Racing Club "Legends of Speed" meeting at Pukekohe this coming weekend. We can get away with a 15yo up there apparently. It's a 2 day meeting, Saturday and Sunday. Not sure who's covering things on Saturday but looks like I'll be running the start line on the Sunday and would be glad of some company there. I can't find anything definitive on the net about it, but here's a sample of what was at their September 2008 meeting :

AES/Tradezone - BMW 2002s, Mk 1 and 2 eskies, and an assortment of Porsches, MGs and Alfas.
Alfa Romeo Trofeo Series - Alfas, Alfas and more Alfas.
Sports and GT Challenge - a mix of Morgans, Porsches and 240Zs, and appearances by Torana, Jaguar and Ferrari.
BMW E30 series - Like mini 7 racing but in 3 series BMWs.
Open BMW Series - More BMWs, this time with some 5 series and M3s in there to spice it up.
Historics - 21 cars and no two the same unless you count the 3 formula fords, a couple of examples : Lola T 34, McRae U2, Van Diemen RF76.
Classic Trial - From Alfa to VW Golf, via Lotus, MG, escort, ferrari, porsche and others.
Muscle Cars - Oh yeah bring it on !!!!!
NZ Sports Car Series - seems to be things like Lotii, Caterhams and Frasers
Super Historics - there's that Caterham out again, together with names to get the ganglions nicely quivering - Lola, Ralt, Radical, Swift .....

Ashton ended up working on the start line for the NZV8s last Sunday and did a superb job, hope you enjoyed it and you're welcome back there any time when I've got some say in it smile.gif

Cheers
Gary
