John Travolta's Boeing 707 in Auckland!

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby ardypilot » Thu Apr 16, 2009 9:55 pm

Seen at NZAA today, and posted on Mike Condon's aviation blog- parked between the International terminal and Domestic terminal according to my ole man (who I'll try and get photos off tomorrow).

Anyone else got pics or know when it will be departing? Would love to see a 707 airborne!

He's parked on 84 stand. To get really nice photos you need to get airside only, and from main taxis because they put covered stairs on left handside of aircraft. Departure as i know(can not guarantie) is tmrw 8pm

If i owned a 707 .. as fuel hungry with older TF's .. i would want to make sure it could be leased ! .. BUT only to rich people who can afford to scratch it , .. winkyy.gif but then again ... forget own's it .. Was it not one of the few types in first with a major ' US Southern disaster' .. to fly in with relief or ... ninja.gif was it !

nah just an old QANTAS airliner .

I believe he does fly it himself, although I don't think he's qualified to act as PIC.

Totally sure he is rated. remember reading about him been appointed as a Quantas cpt.

"Travolta is a certified pilot and owns five aircraft, including an ex-Australian Boeing 707-138 airliner. The plane bears the name Jett Clipper Ella in honor of his children. Pan American World Airways was a large operator of the Boeing 707 and used Clipper in its names. The 707 aircraft bears the marks of Qantas, as Travolta acts as an official goodwill ambassador for the airline wherever he flies. His $4.9 million estate in the Jumbolair subdivision in Ocala, Florida, is situated on Greystone Airport with its own runway and taxiway right to his front door"

Check this out, Confirms he is rated in a 747
Travolta to continue links with Qantas

Cheers

Hmm... I knew about Tom Cruise. After some research I don't think he ever has owned one. I just remember coming across a picture with John Travolta flying in one, may have been a passenger I suppose.

Also on that site linked above:

Grieving celebrity couple JOHN TRAVOLTA and KELLY PRESTON attempted to fly away their troubles over Easter by jetting off to Fiji and Australia.
The Pulp Fiction star and his wife have rarely left their Florida compound since the death of their son Jett at the beginning of the year (Jan09), but they took a secret round-the-world flight together last week.
They spent part of Easter in Fiji and then flew to Brisbane, Australia on Sunday (12Apr09) for a low-key three-day stay.
The Sydney Daily Telegraph reports the couple took in a day trip to Byron Bay and dined with friends as part of their Australian vacation, before Travolta piloted their plane out on Wednesday night (15Apr09).
One local, Alicia Spence, got to pose for a picture with the actor while he was dining at a Chinese restaurant in the city.
She tells the publication, "He was really nice and was happy to be in a photo with us."

On the subject of novel aircraft at NZAA- as reported on the mrcaviation blog, a Canadian C17 arrived last night, (as well as a US C17 from Hawaii to Wellington just now)- whats the story with use of civilian airports for these guys rather than Whenuapai/Ohakea?

Oh, and Emirates will be bringing the A380 into Auckland daily from tomorrow too biggrin.gif
