Sunday Night Ops - 26 April 09 - We will remember them

(Click on image for larger graphic of the route)

ANZAC Day (25 April) is observed in New Zealand as a day of commemoration for those who died in the service of their country and to honour returned servicemen and women.

25 April is the anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli in 1915. On the first anniversary of that landing services were held throughout the country in remembrance of the 2,721 New Zealand soldiers who died during the eight-month Gallipoli Campaign. Since 1916 ANZAC Day has evolved to the observance we know today.

Tonight we remember those who have given their lives in service to the country by flying any era of military aircraft into the three major RNZAF Bases in New Zealand, RNZAF Whenuapai (NZWP), RNZAF Ohakea (NZOH) and RNZAF Woodbourne (NZWB) and also into the Air Movements base at Wellington Airport.

You can choose to fly one of the currently military aircraft:

  • Boeing 757 - ATS ID BOExxxx - Voice "Boeing"
  • Beech B200 King Air - ATS ID KNGxxxx - Voice "King Air"
  • Hercules C130 - ATS ID HERxxxx - Voice "Herc"
  • Lockheed P3 Orion - ATS ID ORIxxxx - Voice "Orion"
  • Iroquois UH1H - ATS IROxxxx - Voice "Iroquois"
  • Kaman SH-2G Seapsrite - ATS SEAxxxx - Voice "Seasprite"

You could even get out your favourite former RNZAF aircraft, A4 Skyhawk, MB339 Macchi, or something even older and bolder!

Come and experience flying into some airfields that you mightn't be used to flying in and out of.

Sadly my home cockpit has a few unservicabilities - the Elite transponder has a broken knob and I'm desperately trying to get either the ISG or PMDG FMC up and working in the Herc (After being caught embarrasingly unprepared departing Dunedin two weeks ago!! icon_redface.gif ) However I plan to be there regardless!! And its great to see Adrian Brausch's Hercules and Orion models are still in widespread use despite being 8 years old! Its a real shame the new CT4 model is FSX only!

How do the virtual controllers feel about an Aermacchi formation!?!?! Better start reading up on those buzz and break procedures! Anybody invited the Virtual Red Checkers?!?!
