Is winter the season for Flightsim?

I was just thinking, is winter the season for Flightsim?

In summer....I feel bad for locking myself in a room in front of a computer screen's dull glow when there is a perfectly good bright glow (the sun) outside.

Now however, when it is cold...and I don't really want to be outside, the blue skies and perfect flying conditions that FS can offer are appealing. I am certainly spending more time on scenery design at the moment too!

So what do you reckon? Are you spending more time in front of the computer now that the weather has turned?

Yeah im doing more but i do stay inside a hell of a lot anyway ,have been thinking i mite try doing more MP flights this winter when scenery lets me have a short break ...

Similar to you Timmo.My Flight Sim 'season starts with daylight saving ending and will run till daylight saving starts again.Forme,the hobby doesn't seem to fit when there is daylight outside.Still follow this site 2 or 3 times a day throughout the year regardless of this.Ian.

Yes got to agree - Winter is peak design time for me - Living in Marlborough, you don't want to be inside in front of a PC during summer too much !!

Certainly is the case for me:


You can certainly see a summer and a winter pattern (more flights in winter)
Ignore the two discrepanices in June (I was in the USA) and January (wife just gave birth so I was home a lot with not much to do)
Otherwise, winter is flying time!

Yeah, I think I read something on VATNZ, that the figures clearly show, there is a heap more online traffic during the cooler months.

We do the same think each year. Remember how quiet everyone was saying the Forums were in Summer?

I reckon it's our hibernation instinct. Snowboarding on the dunes at Papamoa - has to be a sign that it's flightsim time.

Defiantly for me - lack of sunshine outside + challenging RW weather to download with active sky makes for annual increase in simming hours for me.

NZFF website stats also show an increase in activity around this time of year too, for the same reasons you've logically worked out. PS: Alex- if you are reading this, could you PM me the access user/pass to the statics control panel, I'd be interested to have a look through the activity charts and graphs but have lost your original message with the details.

I have just returned from much warmer Europe via Dubai for a night (which was over 30 degrees at 11pm! )
As soon as i got back it's been horrible... gets dark at 5.30pm, thunderstorms and rain and temperatures very low.
This winter I will be on alot more often and maybe do some more repaints, AI packs or maybe give scenery a go.

As a quick aside, the busiest month so far this year has been March, with over 18'200 unique visitors coming through NZFF. April slightly quieter at 17'600ish.
