I bought a 2nd hand copy of XP off Trademe in a pile of other junk a little while back. The seller (genuinely) couldn't tell me whether the serial had already been activated. With nothing to lose, I thought I'd give it a whirl on a backup PC (for Web & Email only) - that I was about to install Ubuntu Linux on if XP failed.

I did the dreaded phone call to MS thing. The person at the other end couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. He asked genuine questions and was quite amused by my Trademe junk story. The whole process took no more than 5 minutes and was a pleasant experience all round. He did sound like a Kiwi, so the service must be local to NZ. So ... even if you change your hardware a fair bit, I can't see it being *that* much of a problem. A bit irritating, but no more than that.

I've often been pretty hard on MS, but credit where credit is due. That said ... long live Ubuntu

I'm more than happy with the activation process, I've had to phone a couple of times with all the microsoft stuff I own, and never had any problems with it being activated.

What bugs me is that when you make changes to your system, then often reactivation is needed, and not just for FSX. VERY annoying to have to keep reactivating software again and again. AAAGGGGGHHH..

Got that off my chest anyway!!
