Rudder issues

Hi all,

I line up with the MAAM DC-3 on the runway for take off. Real weather is set, I have a 20kts crosswind. Full throttle, the old lady is rolling. But hey, what's this blink.gif ! It goes off the runway (let's say it goes to do right this time), I try to get it back using the rudder (full left), no effect. The tailwheel is locked. I had to cancel multiple take offs because of this strange, "over-simulated" effect of the wind. It's not just the DC-3, but every "taildragger" aircraft (Beech D18s, electra, etc), however the DC-3 has the strongest impact.

What is the cure? I tried to change realism settings to "Stupid", no luck... Should I edit arcraft.cfg?

thanks for the help

Never had too much of a problem with it myself (99% of whats in my FS hangar are taildraggers), have you tried leading with the downwind throttle first?
By that I mean advancing the downwind throttle slightly before the upwind one, the yawing effect due to the asymetric thrust should cancel out the weathercocking effect of the crosswind smile.gif
In terms of how much to lead by, with the B-17, I might lead by 10" MP in a 20+kt crosswind, but your mileage may vary.

Go into outside view and check that you're getting full deflection on the rudder. It may give you a clue.

I used to get this, but it seems to have gone away - I wish I knew how/why.

Thanks for the help guys!

My rudder works fine, and my tail wheel is locked (as per the checklist of the aircraft), so I believe the asymmetric thrust will be the one for me. It's just a bit hard to do with a simple joystick (i don't have throttle quadrant) using the "E"+1 or "E"+2 combination, but I'll give it a go, anyway.

Thanks again
