Would this FS9.CFG modification increase my FPS?

In my FS9.CFG this is what can be seen....

UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0

If i change this to say... 30, will i get better FPS?

Cheers, SB.

Just use the slider in FSX to up the limit- This will write the correct value to the cfg file (the cfg file is just the storage medium for the values set by the sliders etc)

Remember this slider only artificially limits the framerate so that extra CPU cycles can be used for other things. It wont give you 'extra' framerates- That is mostly determined by your hardware.

Thanks Timmo. But i'm using FS9. Its just because the other day i changed my "LOD_TARGET_FRAMES" (or something like that) from 17 to 30. Now i get far better FPS. The FPS were in the mid-high teens, now i'm getting 30+.

Cheers.

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember seeing somewhere that FSX differs from FS9 with respect to those settings. The gist was (I think) that FSX ignores it (I don't think it even has such an entry).

The problem I found in trying to speed up FSX was that people do't always tell you which version they relate to. A lot of the tweaks I tried in FSX actually made things worse.

I agree with Timmo - this is the same as using the framerate slider. There were many forumn discussions about what to set in FS9 over the years, but the consensus was generally set to unlimited. Firstly try values if you wish, but my experience is if its set to unlimited, you will always get the best framerates you can especially in sparse areas where there are few objects to render.
FS9 and FSX do behave differently, I do have mine set to 25 in FSX.
All in all its about what works best for your set up and sometimes that takes good ol' trial and error.
