GeForce Problem

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby Kahu » Sat Jun 20, 2009 8:59 pm

I have installed a new 6800GT 512m graphic card(AGP) and when running fsx or fs9.1 the sim freezes up and reboots computer, I don't have any problems running IL2 1946 unified mod.

I have a new 500w PSU.

When I stick in my old 9600 pro I have no problems running the 2 flight sims.

I have the latest drivers and have also tried a couple of older drivers and still same outcome.

Heat doesn't seem to be an issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

No that's all I have installed at the moment.I have a new 300gb hard drive, new x2 1gb ddr 400 ram, and xp3000 cpu.
Every things been fine till this new card, but only with msfs.

Ive seen on other forums people have had similar problems with this card in mfs, but no solutions.

The card may be faulty, but it should freeze up with IL2 also, you would think.

yes

Also noticed in fs9 when creating a flight, aircraft 3d pic struggles to show unless I hit ALT+ENTER to open in window, then shows fine. Sim also crashes when flying in window mode sad.gif .

Maybe I should go back to the good old ATI cards.

have you got a way of testing your components individually? like putting your card, ram etc in another machine to test it.

otherwise these tools may help you:

Memtest
Mestest is a pure memory stability testing tool, that comes in two flavors, the very useful boot-time version that can be put on a bootable floppy disc or CD, and a handy, yet less reliable in-windows version.

UBCD
The Ultimate Boot CD - It's like the ultimate boot-time tool kit. It includes a number of benchmarking, and diagnostic tools for hard drives, memory, CPU, etc.

Just got through manually testing everything and all checks out OK.
Which in my experience means its probably a MOB failure.
Thanks for the links I will give them a go before buying a new MOB and CPU.

Finally a solution ;

1)Graphics card at fault. Installed 2 brand new cards.(Stay away from this make) Even installed cards on different MOB awith athlon and intel CPUs.

2)Also I run my screen setting inverted because of modified desk where screen has to be mounted upside down, and this has small issues when running flight sim.

3)Bought the ATI equivalent of this card, now everything seems fine.

hopefully get back to FS after taken 2 weeks to sort this.
