A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

I noticed when I was driving home from Ardmore this afternoon a new Tui billboard which consists of "Jetstar are off to a flying start" Yeah right.

Underlying all this, I think consumers need to remember this point: You get what you pay for. Nobody can expect to receive the same level of service on a LCC in any regard when comparing it with a conventional carrier. I wonder whether lots of people booked fares with Jetstar and just imagined the experience would be exactly the same as it is on Air NZ. Why should it be? It's cheaper!

John Key Left on the tarmac! Serves him right, he was late. Just a rumor at this stage.

QUOTE
OMG, I have just heard from sources that Jetstar left John Key on the tarmac at Queenstown
He was down there opening the Winter Festival and thought that since he was Tourism minister to support the new operator buy flying Jetstar.
It would have been good for their attempt at recovery after a week from hell where even today they left behind passengers on an overbooked flight, but they managed to add to their PR misery by leaving John Key on the tarmac, stranded in Queenstown.
Was it raining?, Was it snowing? Nope he was just running late.
Jetstar may as well just shut the doors and go back to Australia.[/quote]

Sorry but "so what?", NZ is not country like ex-USSR, where man with power and authority can do anything, here PM is "usual" man, and he need to accept all that T&C that others accept. He was late, that plus to airline that they still were going on schedule, not waiting for late pax, even if this is PM.
It is actually shows that they have no difference pax(not regarding who they are)-and this is great

I think you'll find it had more to do with the weather than John Key running late... as in,it was really foggy, so Jetstar were going nowhere

ok... JQ mistake, but stupid journalists, made mistake again(not surprising me).. not lack of technologies, but lack of papers for RNP
However, i have not seen in article number of canceled flights, comments of angry NZ customer(im pretty sure they were existing).

Yeah I wondered about that too - was sure their A320s would have RNP equipment for Queenstown. It was another storm in a teacup. Anyone would have left passengers waiting in those conditions, but the media dragged it out as another excuse to take a shot at Jetstar.

On 14 March 2006 I was flying "freedomair.com" (ANZsub) from NZDN to YMML. Top service, Top flight - only one problem. The weather was closing in with a fierce rainstorm and severe turbulences. The crew of the Airbus 320 had the choice of getting out of there as fast as possible or having to cancel the flight for the day. So all waiting passengers were rounded up into the departure lounge. As an Aussie my dormant recognition of urgent messages in Kiwi was not very well tuned, so I had to be called from the Cafe by name and rushed through the formalities on bord. We left 30 minutes before schedule to endure a tough Rodeo ride of all 3 axis in this European Nintendo-Jet. As a firm believer in "If it ain't Boeing, I'm not going..." I was stunned to see us finally reaching smooth airspace, which endured all across the Tasman to sunny Melbourne.
As a conclusion from this flight I gather that LCCs rather follow the cut Dollar, Pound, Peso, Euro,... than a strict adherance to service. It was not the pax from NZDN to YMML that were a risk factor to the airline, delay or cancellation would have affected pax from YMML to somewhere in NZ. Airlines are not Buslines. If the weather is abyssmal on the ground, one can pull over and sit out the storm, before continuing. There are no handbrakes for jets in midair trouble, let alone a suitable landing strip of safe length and surface. AF447 recently has shown again, that we are not the Supreme Masters of the Sky.
Finally, let's not forget that Jetstar as a Qantas-sub will create headlines for the mother-company's extreme safety reputation, whenever they'll hit the floor with fatalities.
