ATI X1650 pro

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby Kahu » Tue Jul 14, 2009 7:50 pm

I just installed the AGP version of this card and fs9 and fsx run terrible, at frame rates of about 6-10.

Just want to know if anyone uses this card and want driver version you use?

What Ian says is relevant but remember that card is going to seriously affect your frames, use a pci-express one

i would update drivers. That card is alright, but its a little old now, so this may be the best you can get.

Whats the rest of your system? I.e. CPU, ram, mobo etc

Its a brand new custom built system
3.3 gb cpu
2gb Ram
new harddrive PSU, MOBO etc

The reason I ask is this card replaces an old 9600 pro, which was performing better on my old 2.2 cpu system.

I think I may have found the problem, the new ATI CCC drivers are the fault, I have installed an older driver and my frame rates have increased all of sudden, but not as much as I thought they should. I may attempt a Bios update to see if this helps.

Anyone use OMEGA drivers with their card?

I have an ATi 1650 with 512 meg RAM on my main PC. You mention that your system is new, but it uses AGP, not PCIE? I wouldn't have thought any new systems these days were AGP.

I get good fps for FS, IL2 and other gaming, I think my driver is Omega, will turn the system on soon and take a look and update this post smile.gif

EDIT:
OK, I do have an ATi X1650, not sure it's a Pro.

As for the driver version I am using ... I can't actually work it out (duh). It is either;

7-12_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_55811.exe (45 megs), or,
rad_w2kxp_omega_38221.exe (25 megs)

The Catalyst Control Centre doesn't have any reference at all to Omega so maybe it's the first driver mentioned above.

Sorry I haven't been too much help Kahu sad.gif

i used omega drivers when i was on an ati card and highly recommend them over the stock ones. However for the sake of testing the card properly to rule out faulty components, use ati drivers for now.

Do you by any chance have another system to test the card in to ensure its not the card?

Another possibility is that the system has a faulty component (motherboard or cpu). You stated that this is a new system so faulty components cannot be ruled out.

First off, try completely removing your drivers:
1. Uninstall using uninstall utility in add/remove programs
2. Restart in safe mode and remove all ATI drivers using driver cleaner pro
http://www.download3k.com/System-Utilities...ofessional.html
3. Restart into windows and install the newest ATI drivers

Once the drivers are installed, check over all the settings in CCC. Make sure theres nothing out of the ordinary

Its useless advice but it could help

Out of curiosity where did you get the system and the card? Is the card new?

Everything is brand new, all under warranty. I didn't get a chance to test card on my old system because I was having major issues with 3 different types of cards and decided it may be a MOB issue so that is way I got a new MOB and CPU installed.

I will test out new drivers tonight, uninstalling the drivers like you stated.

It is a new AGP system only because I was updating a couple of components on my old system and started having so problems one after another, then all of a sudden everything had been replaced. If I had of known in hindsight I would of just bought a new PCI system.(would of been cheaper)

It could be the card, but I hope I'm not that unlucky, so far out of all the new parts I have installed, I have had to return 1 hard drive, 2 graphic cards,(GE-Force) and 1 ram module because they were faulty. sad.gif

Horay groupwave.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif
Finally I have my system working nicely. Played IL2 with unified mod at full settings and it was very smooth in battles. Even FSX reaches the 20 frame rate cap most of the time(addon payware airports go down to <10, but that was expected, still usable.)
Ended up being the CCC 8.9 driver that the card needed. Newer drivers only reduced the frame rates considerably and early drivers wouldn't support my resolution of 1440x900 that I use.

Still would like to try the omega drivers but I have had enough tweaking for now just want to do some flying.

ZK-MAT, hopefully I'll be back flying the IL2 TFK this weekend again smiliz2.png plane.gif after about 3-4 week absent trying to fix this machine

Oh cr@p sad.gif sad.gif ohmy.gif

Thought I had fixed problem, but hadn't, drivers were only part of the solution, frame rates down to 7-10 when playing IL2 online and fsx not much better.
Well I think I might have to try the dreaded BIOS update. Cross fingers nothing goes wrong, its a bit scary playing with the bios.

Good luck
although, are you sure updating the bios will do anything? I tend to stay away from stuff like this until i can almost be certain that it will be the bios.

Again my PC is back in the shop , have the same problem .. 1300 bucks of graphics card on a top end mobo with the latest heatsink RAM .. FSX bounces from lower than your result to a whooping 60 plus over a scenery with every slider maxed out , i'm sure i should have a solution this weekend .... hoping least
