Hi guys.

Have a quick question. How do I keep calm during my NZCAA test flight? I get so nervous, then my thoughts go blank, even when I've prepared well.

I always try to remember 2 things, one, your instructor would not have put you up for it if you were not ready, and two, the flight test is not a testing anything you dont know how to do. You know it all and have done it all.

How many instructors have we got out there? im about to begin my instructors course, how hard out is it? like will i need to be studying every second im not in class?

Im hopefully just about to start my C Cat. Got a couple of mates doing in on fixed wing now, got their flight tests next week. Put it this way, they are all over it and just want to get it done. Havnt seen any of them out at the pub since the course started. Ive sat in on a couple of their study sessions (some crossover for heli flying) its very intense stuff.

I've got a D-Cat rating somewhere which I've had for a few years now. I don't use it that often but the great thing about it is that in doesn't have to be renewed or kept current. Does come in handy sometimes. Squawk1200 and I are gonna go assault the air in a Piper Cub, for his type rating. Just as soon as he gets off his fat arse and comes down and does it !! tongue.gif Man I hope I can remember how to fly them things, especially from the back !! But good times ahead in it anyway...

I tried to do a C-Cat about 4 years ago, did most of the ground, theory, briefings etc but only about 2 hours of flying towards it. To tell the truth, I absolutely HATED it (with a capital H), well the ground stuff anyway. Was too, hands-off for me but luckily at about the same time as I ran out of patients and money, I got offered a job actually flying a plane and didn't look back. Well at least until about now anyway. I now think it would be kinda neat to do some ab-initio training, at least since I managed to get a bit of experience since the first go at it. Unfortunately now though the cost of doing it, and the renewals is just too much so a C-cat wont be on the cards for a few years for me. The D will have to do until then.

Well, I've asked for the intro flight for my birthday. We'll find out next week if I get it or not.

Last lesson tomorrow - slow flight and an intro into the circuit!

Made a couple of stupid errors today (error because I did something then did what is advisable not to do)!! (Gona be thinking of them for a while now!!)

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

Ummm... In the final check, I turned the the ignition B-R-L-B but instead of going to left I moved it a bit quickly and ended up in off. Realising this I quickly (did this all in about half a second) turned it back through L and R to both. Stupid mistake - should have left it in off.

Last lesson tomorrow? Huh?

And I'm pretty sure everyone's had problems with thier mags before- I remember getting mine stuck on both and having to quickly pull the mixture before it went bang!

Wellington Aeroclub. All I know is that after this lesson, it's onto the circuits.

Bad for the engines?
Bad weather=no flight (rang up - last time I made the 7km bike ride and found it was cancelled. 7km home. Uphill. With a headwind! :-( ).

Dissapointing :-(

Thats pretty cool having an Aeroclub at an international airport, especially at NZWN! I know IFR flights don't usually coincide with the circuit traffic, but what happens when a 737/A320, or a 1900d/Dash 8 for that matter, has to do a go around? Wouldn't they just mulch the slower training aircraft? ohmy.gif

Welcome to aviation mate! I'm booked in for 5 flights a week but have only managed 2 so far due to weather/maintenance. It's something you will to get used to, especially at gusty ole' Wellington!
