Windows 7

What do you think?
I all ready have the RC of windows 7 and just want to gauge what the response will be to its release.

Windows 7 looks great but ill let it be out of awhile before i convert.
My friend also has the RC.
Looks great and runs fast.

didnt vote as i might switch to macbook pro with xp installed so i can play FSX on the go. windows 7 looks good though. id be interested to see some comprehensive flight sim tests on different OS's

ive got them both setup on my hard drive... both have under 40 processes while in game. both get around 40 FPS in ARMA2 but the XP seems to be a bit more jumpy on the graphics. probably todo with only having the DX9 whereas win7 = dx10.1

Since Windows 7 Media Centre can handle Freeview, I'll upgrade so that I can stream Freeview to the Xbox. At the moment I'm stuck watching it on the PC, which means I can't chill out on the couch...

I'm probably going to 7, as I've got several mates with the RC, and I must say, from my experience with OS's, I'd rate them 7 > Mac OSX > XP > Ubuntu > Vista.

Yeah, I run the RC on my MacBook Pro. Its heaps better than XP for gaming, as well as Vista, runs well and looks cool too!

Nothing beats OSX.

LOL I was given an OSX virtual machine running under VMWare...I started it up, checked it out, yawned and turned it off again. No better or worse than 7, just different.

Different strokes for different folks though. As a software developer I LOATHE apple's hardware, OS and browsers for more technical reasons that I could care to name. OSX is targetted at consumers who want to turn it on, surf the net, check their email, and maybe run some commercial software package or other. But you can't get that much software for the Mac or the iPhone (relative to the equivalent Windows or open source version), cos Apple make developers pay (lots!) just to write software for their platform. It's all about wanting to make Apple as much $$ as they can.

Anyone else here got the Win 7 RTM yet, or am I the only lucky one?

Meh, I don't really feel like a debate this evening. Theres plenty of software out there for them. I shall save by breath though, maybe go out and use one for a while; you'll notice a difference. Especially consider OSX Snow Leopard is 45% faster than Leopard. Using it now, I can tell you, its fast.

Enjoying Windows 7 for gaming though, looks good, runs well!

me for one. although im not installing untill ive got round to taking all my stuff off this one first. there is about 20gb of game images to move cant change to the RTM only to not be able to play arma

LOL yeah, well I've heard that ARMA 2 runs really nicely on 7

I know what you mean, between sorting out a dodgy HDD setup as I had it under Vista, and having to copy across a bunch of data, plus reinstall everything, AND swap in a new motherboard to replace the one I frigged up somehow along the way I've been migrating to 7 for 6 weeks now!!

but man, it's worth it on so many levels

Yeah I have been running the RC version and it is great. Clean, quick and peripherals install easily. My Vista is turning into a dog. I now get a random Windows explorer application hang when opening files (bloody annoying and requires an application restart and I also get the dreaded blank network box which I need to fix from time to time. Still microsoft have managed developed a unique form of mind control that makes these faults magically occurr when you most need them not too....amazing! I am just hoping my Vista install can limp along long enough until W7 is released. I do not want to reinstall Vista and then shortly after W7. At least I now have a name for my next puppy......here Vista...come boy......
