Funny, that's how I got into design in the first place -- I felt that things weren't getting released fast enough.... Next you'll be messing around with GMAX, looking to build your own Whenuapai! That'd be great.

I've already had a couple of people express an interest in remodelling Whenuapai. I have said I'll do NZAA and NZAR, but there's been so much talk from people who wanted to do the others, in particular NZWP, that I wouldn't want to jump in. However I am able to help with tips and tutorials, at least, for anyone who wants to give it a go.

By the way, although the airport is unchanged, the visuals are completely different:

No way I could get my poor [old] head around GMAX and scenery design. laugh.gif

Whenuapai hasn't really changed that much in the last 10-15years. Greenhithe (where I live) however is now no longer a small village. A lot of the farm/forest area down by Kyle Road etc is now known as 'Wainoni' and is a suburb unto itself however there is no dairy etc down there - the Greenhithe dairy is now a small supermarket!!! Also the other end of Kyle Road/Schnapper Rock is just as populated.

Albany is one of the fastest growing areas in New Zealand, it's now spreading out along Oteha Valley Road (commercial/industrial) and on the ridge line the residential developments are growing at a scary rate. I remember going to my friends house when I was 7 (15 years ago) and his house on Oteha Valley Road was up a long driveway, on a farm, in 'the middle of nowhere'.

Also you now have the Northern Ring Route being put through so that there is a motorway running from Constellation Drive up behind Greenhithe, over the harbour, between Hobsonville/Whenuapai and joining up with the North Western. That's due to be completed in two years time!

I intend to do Hobsonville with some photoreal buildings as a beginners project. If that goes well and I have time then I'll look at doing North Shore, and then perhaps Whenaupai. But it all depends on how much time I have over summer, and whether or not I end up moving to Hamilton in February to start doing my CPL. If other people are intending to model any of these places then I'd be keen to collaborate as that may help get things done faster and better!

Ooh, that'd be nice! I live just across the inlet - Beachhaven way! I think it's quicker to swim across than go all the way round in the car!!

When we first went to Oteha Valley Rd, it was still gravel! Left Albany for the Bays in 1966, so it's sure changed a lot.

I remember as a kid going to 'Clemows' orchids to get bags of fresh apples. I grew up in Forest Hill and East Coast Bays areas but have now moved to Wellington. My Mum and Dad are now in the retirement village on the corner at North Cross. Boy have I seen huge changes to the area on my return visits! Oteha Valley Rd is a highway now! Albany has just had explosive growth.

Anyway enough reminiscing.... blink.gif

I did start Whenuapai and had modelled the aeroclub and fire building.....unfortunately, when I went to do some more work on it, I couldn't find my project files....I do still have the source photos however.
