Wet takeoffs South Island?

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Can anyone tell me if there are any ways of starting a flight in the South Island with an amphibian (eg float plane bases)?

If you have an AFCAD Program you can make some Floatbases yourself in a few minutes.

If you are using FS2004 you can download AFCAD from most Flightsim websites and the best way to learn is try and try again :-)

Just set your flight up with the aircraft you are wanting ,fly to the location you want to start your flight from exactly ,just like you pulled up to the wharf to drop of some ppls ,up on your over head drop down menu in game click file and save flight ,simple as that ,
you can also set as default flight, so everytime you start the sim up thats the flght you can take off from right away without going though the hassles each time of picking all the settings ...

if this is FS9 should be the same as the way i explained above from memory ,

If you are wanting to set this up for a scenery release there is a way to do this in notepad and the bgl comp that i can explain to you by PM

Already made Sth Island SPB's (for FS9) are available, at least around Marlborough Sounds (Cook Straits/Marlborough Sounds AI package). There is also a Picton floatplane package with a ficticious SPB in Wellington harbour serving Furneaux Lodge, Portage, and other beaches in the Sounds.

Other real world Sth Island locations would be Lake Brunner and Te Anau (note to self: I really, really must finish the Wings & Water FBO). Simply slew from the nearest airport to where ever, and save the flight. Or, create SPB start locations with AFCAD (as Ian suggests).

I find the easiest way is to start at an airport closest to where you want to fly from so from Invercargill RW 22

Go to the map.

Then change your aircrafts position to where you want to start flying from by dragging the aircraft make sure you change the altitude to +0 it will then auto fix to sit you on the water you can also change the heading if you want to.

If you drag the aircraft across to just below the bridge on the river see map above you should finish up here

Then you are ready to take off down the River Estuary If you save this before you make your flight you can start from here any time you like just change the date and time before you start your flight.

Thanks everyone, I used the last method. Didn't realise you could drag the plane in the map.
Might look into something more permanent in the future.
