What are these like? I've noticed he'll swap for a 33, and its bigger, reasonably rare and being a V6 will sound good. Does look a bit rough, but no rust can't be all bad.

Ah the 164 wub.gif

They're really awesome my father also had one a couple of years back and she was a fantastic beast but he sold it in the end as the electronics were starting to pack up.

If I was you I'd keep the 33.

My Bluebird got smacked into the back of and written off last week and my insurance company payed me out $2800 for it- any suggestions on what I should get guys? I'm hoping for a trademe buy, jap import for parts availability, maybe a early/mid 90's Prelude or something... feel free to post me some links!

I'm saving up for one of these at the moment, really quick, downsides from what I've heard they're relatively expensive to service and obviously being twin-turbo insurance is pretty expensive.

Good luck with that mate... A GT Legacy is one of those cars that would be fine if you owned it from new - unfortunately by the time people such as yourself get a hold of them, they've been rolled bowled and a$$holed by every previous owner and are literally a ticking time-bomb in terms of mechanical reliability sleep.gif

I will agree though, they are quick but heavy! Hauling around an AWD setup with a 4-cyl. turbo is thirsty work.
How about a Nissan Stagea RS? Find a genuine RS and you've got an R33 GTR engine, drivetrain and chassis wrapped up in a station wagon body shell ninja.gif

On another note, took a 500km drive a couple of weeks back and picked up our genuine Skoda-Auto WRC rear spoiler, complete with the genuine lightweight rear windscreen cool.gif
A whopping 1.9mm thinner than the regular screen... Won't do anything for us, but shows the extent to which the works teams will go to reduce weight.

Pure carbon fiber, shame it was colour coded to match the rest of the car... Could have spent a lot less and got a reproduction, but since it is the original one as fitted by the Skoda-Auto team when they debuted the Fabia WRC car here and it has the matching serial numbers with the rest of the kit already on the car and in it's logbook, we just had to take it

i would personally stay away from a TT subaru with that many kms. Granted 167k kms isnt a hell of a lot but being twin turbo and a subaru, 7/10 chance its been thrashed heaps. If you can find out a genuine history about the car and its all clear then by all means go for it. Just a heads up.

Also, subarus are absolute swines of things to work on hence the high cost of servicing and general maintainance. If you can DIY you save heaps of $$$ just in labour but you have to be prepared to learn a whole new range of words not in the dictionary.

@trolly
bad luck man! Werent you trying to sell your bluebird a while back? Preludes are nice cars but be prepared to spend about 5-6k for a tidy one, more with low ks. Cars have gone crazily overpriced lately. How much are you looking to spend? Celicas are nice cars, and very reliable. Unsure about preludes as ive never really had anything to do with them, although i do like the looks of them but a nice decent one is hard to come by these days

Yeah I really like the Stagea RS as it's a real sleeper but they're pretty thin on the ground in NZ and any decent ones are generally more than $15k. I'm realistically looking to spend up to 8 or maybe 10. How about an Audi A4 1.8T or an E36 BMW 325/328?

I'd go with the Audi to be honest - lots of parts interchangeable between any VAG using the 1.8T and very DIY if that's your thing - pick up a VAG-COM cable and a laptop running XP and you can self tune, run diagnostics and customize the pretty much anything electrically driven or controlled via a nice simple interface happy.gif

If you #### something up, no worries - a few clicks on the mouse and it can be put back to the default level and you can try again. This works on all VAG vehicles from the early 90's onwards, so thats Audi, VW, Skoda, Seat and if you can find where they've hidden the input ports, a Veyron, the two ugly Lambos and newish Bentleys ph34r.gif

Realistically, VW/Audis from the 1.8T onwards are getting "Toyota-ish" in terms of reliability and a good solid, safe cars. Not too thirsty either cheers1.gif

I thought there were hardly any Stageas on trademe but they're just all autos. This looks like exactly the sort of thing I'm after. Nissan RBs are supposed to be pretty bulletproof aren't they?

Yep, coil-packs seem to be the major issue with RB's. Common swap is to use Mitsi 4G63 ones as they seem less temperamental... The biggest question though, is can you justify feeding a 2.6 with two snails hanging off the side? - bearing in mind that you're looking at around 1600kgs there

Yeah as well as fuel consumption there would be the insurance cost too. Ah well, none if that is a major concern at the moment as I'm about $9000 short of the $9000 start price.

I prefer not to take an opinion on something until I have a firm understanding of it... I'm usually asked a few times a week for advice or to swing a spanner on someones Jappa rolleyes.gif

I could start on the Ford vs Holden debate Lawrie, but we both know there's only one winner there thumbup1.gif
