MSXML4 SP2 Cannot be Found!

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby Bagnew » Sat Aug 01, 2009 9:53 am

Oh boy, this is fun. I got over the error at the end of the installation, just to get this when I try to start up the game. I have already downloaded MSXML4SP2 from Microsoft, and used a little trick to install it, and it said that it was a successful installation, so I was happy. Until, of course, I tried to play. It still says that it's not installed. Help, please! It's been 18 months since I was able to Sim at home!

No, I haven't tried that Rob, I'll try that, and let you know how it goes.

EDIT: Followed Method 4, didn't work.

The game is installed on the D Drive, whereas my OS is on the C Drive. Would that have any effect on this problem?

Right, copied FSX over to the C Drive, and tried - Didn't work.
Re-installed the MSXML4SP2 thing, and as usual the install failed, so I opened a second installer before closing the first one, setting the second to repair, and when prompted, closing the first one, which allowed the second to complete successfully. Alas, it still ain't working!

Are you using XP or Vista?

If Vista run the installer as Administrator.

Right, problem solved.
Solution? Installed Windows 7.
I can finally sim again!
Bad news? Crappy laptop, but as good as I'm likely to get. Other bad news (for my simming)? My brother's taking the laptop with him to update his blog while he's in America for the next 3 weeks.

Good that you have got things running again, but if something like that happens again then it might be good to uninstall the service packs etc. (through the add/remove programs section),then do a clean up of the registry (to remove any traces of the service packs). There are some free registry cleaners that you can download, and these seem to solve a lot of these type of problems.

Anyway, main thing is that your sim is running again.

Smooth landings.

I don't think I had the SPs installed, but in case this happens again in future, thanks for the tip!
