I prefer not to take an opinion on something until I have a firm understanding of it... I'm usually asked a few times a week for advice or to swing a spanner on someones Jappa rolleyes.gif

I could start on the Ford vs Holden debate Lawrie, but we both know there's only one winner there thumbup1.gif

Heh heh,.......... im a good fisherman eh Steve,............. you bite well,.................... laugh.gif
As for Jappas,............... well, we both know my thoughts there,.................

Yep ,... we know what the winner is there,.......... theres one parked in my garage, and it never has the need of a spanner being swung on it,............

You coming over at all these holidays ?? Been far too long since we last caught up..................

Do Motorbikes count tongue.gif, I ride a Suzuki Bandit

The 250? I had a quick ride of one, definitely fast for a 250 but too smooth I reckoned - I prefer a lumpy single or V-twin anyday winkyy.gif

Sounds like there are a few bikers about on NZFF these days.

How about a Nissan Stagea RS? Find a genuine RS and you've got an R33 GTR engine, drivetrain and chassis wrapped up in a station wagon body shell ninja.gif

Not quite correct- The only model to have the RB26DETT was the AUtech Stagea 260RS and they were all manual trans, ATTESSA AWD eqipped...and technically Autech cars rather than Nissan- The more common RS4 and RS got the RB25DET or RB25 and were either manual or auto, RWD or AWD. Most are Auto 4wd cars....there were also Rb20 versions which would be glacial I'd imagine.

Ive had a quick blast in the newer shape VQ powered wagon....the one I test drove was a VQ25DET with a little over 300hp...pretty quick but you could tell it was a heavy car!

I ride the 600cc version, well I did until I crashed it after my tire blew up going around a roundabout and it has now been written off.
Lucky insurance paid for it and I am currently riding a little GN while I look around for an upgrade.
Man GNs are slowwww, Im looking at getting a Ninja ZX10R 1000cc but because the rego is going up next year I might stick with the GN for now and upgrade to a car shorty

What do you reckon?

Well I've managed to suss myself a new automobile after the Bluebird writeoff:

That was pretty much the visual extent of the damage which I thought may cost a few hundy to fix at the panel beaters, thought the towbar took most of the impact, but the insurance wrecker reckoned the repairs would cost more than the value of the car, which they estimated to be $2800, so I happily took that instead. I was thinking about trying to get rid of it on trademe for $2500 but had never got around to it, and proberly wouldn't have even got that as it had been having quite a few overheating issues recently, even with a new radiator put in last year.

I scoped out a few cars in my price range online, but I think it was Tom from here who linked me to an auction for a VR6 on Waiheke Island which took my fancy, although the beginning price was 29. with a reserve of 4.4- I rang the seller anyway and she said she wouldn't go lower than 33. but hadn't had any offers yet- guess it was my lucky day when she phoned back the next day and said she'd take whatever I had as she was going on a family holiday to Egypt the following morning and was in desperate need of the cash.. Took a mate over on the ferry who's a mechanic to have a once over- took it for a test run and was instantly in love. Nice tidy 2.8 V6, handles great and goes like stink. Included tints, rims and a Sony headunit which weren't listed in the auction which was a nice bonus, with wof and rego intact too. Very happy with my purchase I am- although am not sure how long I'll keep it as euro spare parts aren't easily available, and the passenger window doesn't have a motor in it, and the rear two windows have been disconnected due to 'problems'- I've already had offers for $3000, so watch this space if VR6's are you're kinda thing as I may try and sell it on early next year, particularly if the petrol consumption on the 25km runs to Ardmore from my place gets too much!

Nice work mate, although for one so rough you definately paid too much!
Reasonably thirsty, as they're a heavy little boat and the VR lump isn't overly powerful by todays standards... Although drop the window and feed it a large helping of right foot and the noise it makes will make you forget about all that happy.gif

Come on over here and sign up, make yourself at home - you've joined the herd laugh.gif
Plenty of helpful people based in Auckland who can help you out with parts or advice specific to VR6's.

That doesn't sound too good! I rode a GN250 ages ago, gutless as and I hated the riding position.

I couldnt afford the big-bike rego so I'll be looking at a 500-600 for my next bike. It's a shame how I would pay more ACC levy for an SV650 than an R6 though.

As for car vs bike, there's no doubt that cars are more practical and are just as cheap to run as big bikes. I think I'll eventually end up with a car for transport and an older 500-600 bike for the weekends and sunny days.

Well I test rode a CBR1000 today and all I can say was, Holy S***!!
Even small adjustments made it wheel stand and I ended up doing 200k without even realising!!

However the outcome was, yes it's a wicked bike with such a huge buzz however I've already got 82 demerit points and even with a radar detector I can't afford to get any more tickets. Plus now I'm getting into my CPL I can't afford to fall off and loose my medical because I decided to be stupid which is extremly tempting on a bike like that even with the proper gear on.

I'm probably going get rid of this slowwwww GN and get a car as a bike is going to cause me damage plus alot of money with this new rego, It's not worth risking my flying for!!

I've had my full car license as well for a while now but never owned or done much driving so don't really know whats good.

Want probably a 2.0L at least since I'm going from a 600cc motorbike, still I don't know what to do..

Any suggestions, is this the correct decision deciding not to get a 1000ccc motorbike ??

I wouldn't be buying a thou- from what I hear they are very expensive to ride & keep. If you ride much you will shell out a fortune in tyres & speeding tickets. Dunno how much money you have to spend, but if I was in your situation I'd get a reliable older 2L car, and an older 400-600cc bike (Kawasaki GPZ500 sorta thing - cheap to run) otherwise just go the car.

Nice looking bike there Jason, it's quite large for a 400 aye? One thing I always look for on a bike is a wide, comfy seat, and this looks like it fits that criteria, enoy the bike, look after it and she'll look after you smile.gif

mmmm love naked bikes smile.gif Always wanted one, never gotten around to buying one. Maybe my tastes are a little biased; I learned to ride on gravel roads on an old CB900... mmm, those were the days!

Great looking bike, well done!

Edit: Bought it!

1.6L, nice and easy on the fuel. 1997 model, not too bad at all for just over $4k.
