Incident: Jetconnect B734 at Wellington on Jan 3rd 2010, bird strike

A Jetconnect/Qantas NZ Boeing 737-400, registration ZK-JTQ performing flight QNZ-48/QF-48 from Wellington (New Zealand) to Sydney,NS (Australia), suffered a bird strike causing severe engine (CFM56) vibrations while climbing out of Wellington and diverted to Christchurch (New Zealand), where the aeroplane landed safely.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights

I didnt see anything on the TV3 news , the diverting to Christchurch obviously meant they were in there safety margins or was this used to dump fuel .

734's can't dump fuel. The weather in Wellington was pretty bad that day, combined with the short runway and a lack of engineering facilities in Wellington it made more sense to head to Christchurch.

I did'nt no that ! 737 not able to dump fuel , what you say would make sense with Wellys wide weather and course engineering .
