Loud jet over Tauranga.

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Hey guys,

Today around 1-2pm I heard a LOUD jet from my house in Tauranga. Not sure what it was but I went outside to look for it but couldnt find it?!?? Does any locals know what it may have been?

Im guessing it MIGHT be the B733, BAe146, RNZAF 757 or one of those private jets thay sometimes visit TGA.

You beat me to the punch - heard it from Papamoa, about 2 minutes ago but couldn't spot it, sounded like high altitude. ohmy.gif

Yeah I just saw it. YAY! To me it looked like a Cessna Dragonfly. It was in the distance. Jeez, it's amazing how these littles jets can make so much noise!

The A-37 is a particularly loud aircraft, it almost deafened me once taking off as I was pre-flighting an aircraft!

It did a very loud low level approach to TG over Bayfair a few mins after a Dash landed, my wife commented that it was chasing down the Air New Zealand plane, then it gained height over the Mount, turned back to the airport and did a few barrel rolls before another steep ascend. Bloody quick, real noisy, and quite the spectacle to see smile.gif

Yep it will be at the show..actually its the aircraft featured in all the air show posters. Other aircraft to look forward to will be the Mustang and Spitfire ("AL" --which I have never seen).

Hopefully the Kittyhawk and/or Corsair also make it along with a L-39.

You guys are correct, that dragonfly is a beast.
Was upsetting the circuit pattern for the novice ones, they had to wait a while due wake turbulence lol
It's owned by the Classic Aircraft trust and sits in the new hangar at the classic flyers musuem
