Thanks for that -- I actually have the same screenshot with added arrow, but now I won't need to upload it...

@Timmo: Why do the lights impact FPS?

Are all the lamp posts as detailed as the ones seen in Robs shots?

If that's the case, maybe you could make a less detailed lamp post, and let designers put in detailed ones closer to the airport if they want

Why do lights impact frame rates? Because computers are not infinitely powerful winkyy.gif More things to draw = more 0's and 1's through a processor which can only sort a limited amount of 0's and 1's

They are simply light points at the height of a lamp post....reason being (at least in my mind)- Its dark, so unless you are really close (i.e. < 50m) you wont see the actual light post because the brightness of the light obscures it and there is no point drawing lots of things (therefore dragging frames down) if you dont see them.

For areas where more detail is needed, addon airports/scenery would be used anyway....as in robins shots

In a way it was unfair to Timmo for me to post those shots, in that there is always a good chance that beta features will change, and I did have a fair idea that this would be the case here. However the lights were included to illustrate a kind of 'what if' with FSX -- what could it look like if computer performance wasn't a factor. However most developers spend just about as much time taking stuff out of their scenery as they do putting it in -- optimisation is a major part of a quality scenery. Anyone could make a great scenery if they could just pour in detail, but to make it perform well we need to use other methods.

The performance hit of thousands of light effects, in addition to what the sim is already struggling to display, such as weather, atmospherics, autogen, and a big flash aircraft model, is only to be expected. Timmo could leave the lights as they are, but he'd be doing the average user a disservice.

Some developers actually push the performance too far, and end up with a beautiful looking scenery on the top 2% of computers, but everyone else has to turn down their settings to get it to work satisfactorily. They KNOW that they have a great product, because they've seen the great screenshots, they just have to accept that they'll never see it at its best, unless they win Lotto. Thankfully Timmo -- and I -- make scenery for the other 98% of us:)

By the way, as I said, the airport lights are my own models. There are probably less than 50 in the whole scenery, a long way from however much you'd need to represent every street light in a city.

Will this new update fix the no open doors glitch?

For example, I open the doors in ANY aircraft and they will open but then they will close in like 2 secs. But when I want to open them again they still close....

Huh?? We are refering to scenery updates, not aircraft. There must be a fault with your set up as my doors don't do that.

Forgot to add, this only happens when I park at the main apron with RealNZ Tauranga. Wasn't talking about they don't open around the whole world in FSX....

I suppose it comes down to evolution...?

I started using FS and found I had to add mesh to provide Mt Maunganui at Tauranga. The original idea seemed to be that people wanted to fly the planes and MS gave us a bit of dirt to land on, except of course in the USA
where their perceived customers were.

We are now at the stage where the scenery almost seems to be taking over the hobby and are discussing street lights and opening doors. I have appreciated the realism that Rob and Lawrie have provided over the years and
would be the first to admit that it's great to be able to taxi to an area that looks like an actual airport, or fly over a semi-realistic town. There is always a downside however, and the reason why your gear doesn't cut it each time
a new version of FS comes out, isn't because the planes are that much better. Are we getting to the stage where people will moan that they can't find their own house property...?

Meanwhile, I'll get into my Maule (very realistic) and enjoy a flight out into the rurals.

I wonder whether this is an issue with refuelling spots in general. Believe me, if I could control aircraft parts via scenery I'd be very happy, but it just doesn't happen. The only thing different about Tauranga is that there are lots of refueling/repair spots. Maybe its a little hiccup in the way that the sim 'repairs' the aircraft.

I have the same issue Robin. And my fuel returns to 100%. So I would imagine it is the the fueling spots.

The update doesn't include repair facilities, so hopefully this won't happen any more.

It happens to me as well, on the apron and around the main terminal/fuel pumps eveywhere.

I'm looking forward to this new Tauranga Update, hopefully it's fixed the major issues, Robin it also does it at Rotorua I believe ;S

This is a tricky issue, whether or not to include refuelling points. Put them in and someone will complain about the doors not working, leave them out and someone will ask why they don't refuel when they park at a fuel pump. You can't please everyone:) It seems that some users can't have open doors and working fuel pumps -- this is a limitation of the sim, rather than the scenery.
