REX question

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Which does REX 2 use the most? Does it carry a lot of the load over to the gpu? Or does it continue to use the cpu most of the time? This will really be the deal breaker for me. I cant seem to find anything on their support forums and I know some of you will be using and might be able to give me an educated answer.

REX is simply(! ok not quite so simple) a set of replacement textures. It doesn't 'do' anything while the sim is running. However there are a couple of things which affect performance. First, there's some lovely huge textures to replace the defaults. There's also a better weather depiction, which is a real drain on some systems. Since with REX textures installed you'll be sending a lot more data to the graphics card, then bandwidth and video memory are going to be the limiting factor.

However like any texture improvements, it won't LOWER the load on anything, it'll make any system work harder, both CPU and graphics.

In a way, REX is the opposite of the other replacement textures discussed here lately. If you have a good system which looks nice and you want it to look even better, then get REX. If your system is straining a bit with the default then look at the smaller texture set.

Thanks for the quick reply. My old Dell is running FSX pretty well, running old RealNZ Wgtn quite well, just the 3d buildings that slow me down a bit. textures don't seem to hit me that much so I'll see how it goes.
