What software is everyone using?

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

So, what software is everyone using to render out their scenery? Is anyone here using 3DS Max? or is it mostly GMAX users?

If you're a 3DS Max user can you please point me in the right direction to help me export scenery.

Thanks,
Wesley.

I don't use 3DS (even though I make a living from developing scenery, there's no way I could justify the cost, even spread over five years -- it it greater than all my software budget combined), I've always used GMAX, but there is a huge amount of info over at FSDeveloper.com regarding 3DS-- check the forum and the wiki.

It is the same export as Gmax as it uses the same plugins FSTools ,just export as scenery BGL or flight model MDL , you will need to have the deluxe version of fsx so you can install the FSX SDK files where you will find the plugins you will need ,i know it supports upto 3dmax 9.0 the last time i used it ..

just to answer the question, i use Gmax as it is a simplified version of Max and i dont have to dig through modifiers ill never need in FSX modeling

Out of interest, is anyone using Blender?

I did use blender back before I could afford the student edition of 3DS Max. It's pretty superior for free software, considering it has a decent renderer. Although I found its interface very challenging to pick up on after using GMAX (Used GMAX for modelling simcity 4 buildings years ago). Now I just render out my scenes with 3DS Max 2009 and Mental Ray, but with FS Scenery it doesn't seem to go through a complex renderer like that?

GMAX doesn't need a renderer, as the game itself renders the final scene.
