As most of the bits have been drawn in CAD they would be easily replaced, and the electronic clever bits are pretty much off the shelf... so I don't think it would take too much at all
I am lucky enough to have seen the entire development of this sim from the first laser cut parts through to test flights and completion, and I'd say; if you had the money this is a good fs investment! If you take the $10,000 and work backwards, just taking things like PC's screens, projector and other off the shelf goodies you end up getting all of Roberts hard work (and there was *plenty* of that) for almost nothing.
If I had the money it'd be sitting in my garage right now, no question!

With regards to supporting the sim; the reality is that no single part of the sim is terribly complicated, and even the more complex bits are not too bad. Robert has documented almost everything to an incredible level of detail.. makes me feel like an amateur, and I do this stuff for a living!
Depends where you live, but I am sure there would be no shortage of volunteers to help with the sim, in return for some flying <lol>
