Hi all

Bought the FSX Gold Edition from work the other day, installed FSX and Acceleration but FSX fails to progress past the title screen. The title comes up, it goes through the "generating scenery indexes", then says a fatal error has occured and Microsoft will notify me when a solution is available.

Huh?!

Any ideas? I'm on Vista and have had FS9 run on this machine no sweat.

Oooh dear. Shame. Enough HD space? I think FSX creates a whole heap of temporary scenery files in your profile. Checked/defragged your drive lately?

Also - have you checked you have the latest video drivers installed?AND .... are you running as Admin and/or have UAC turned off (User Access Control).

You could also try removing the fsx.cfg found in the hidden folders C/ app data, then when you start the exe ,it would build a new one...

' FLICK" ouch i heard that ,....this part may hurt , install another HD (bugger spend more) , only for FSX , sure keep other FS9 and your saved files on the 'C'- Drive .

HDD has 170gb of 288gb remaining.

UAC is definitely turned off - the damned thing keeps asking if I want to "fix this problem" - perhaps a defrag is a good idea smile.gif

See if you can delete the scenery cache/indexes (XX:\All Users\Microsoft\FSX\SceneryIndexes\) then do your defrag. Try Creator's fsx.cfg tip as well.

Question for others - would deleting the scenery.cfg file help as well?

Oh bugger! I had the same problem a couple of years ago. Darned if I can remember the solution. I think it was something to do with a weather add on I had.

even better idea, instead of deleting the cfg. file, delete VISTA. Wish that I had got rid of it much sooner, I went back (upgraded) to XP and was much happier after the change. Vista = problems.

Smooth (XP) landings.

I hated my Vista. Gave me no end of grief. The system's good enough to run Windows 7 (much better!).

100% its VISTA that is doing this to you. My mate had a similar problem even though he was installing FSX he needed to be doing this in ADMINISTRATOR mode. You might answer back "Iam the administrator" but so was he,apparently you have to be total ADMIN in Vista for FSX to install properly.

I shudder to think what your mate was up to with regards to admin rights... unsure.gif
Fresh install of Vista here (48hrs old), fresh clean install of FSX + Acceleration and all the usual goods - No worries, no problems... 8hrs spent flying in X today.

As for Vista... Had it since RTM and not a single problem! This rig gets everything thrown at it - gaming, the wife does her photo and video editing on here and might only be restarted to install updates and that's it.
Just throw some more RAM at your rig and it'll cure your ills tongue.gif

Will buy 7 at some point smile.gif Disappointingly it seems to have been Acceleration that wouldn't work? I tried to run FSX but is there a separate shortcut to run AAcceleration?

I uninstalled both and reinstalled FSX on its own and its working great biggrin.gif

YAY!!! clapping.gif

I couldn't really see any advantages to Acceleration, so when I set up my new Win7/FSX install I left it off. Can't say I'm missing it winkyy.gif
