Ultimate Traffic 2

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Adamski » Tue Mar 16, 2010 1:50 pm

I currently have a pretty comprehensive WOAI setup - installed over my old Fllight1 Ultimate Traffic (v1), which I didn't get on with too well: too few timetable/livery updates and GFX problems when aircraft shadows were turned on.

Anyone here tried UT2 yet? Is there anything in there worth me being woo'ed back to it? Does it do NZ/AUS traffic well?

Well i have reviewed UT2, love the program, it covers nz very well, right down to the dash 8's and b1900's, now having said that, there is no liveries for anz on the dash's or the 1900's, (or the ATR's i think) but they are still represented with the default paint, but you can all ways change that. it allows you to use DX10 (if that is what you want) and the aircraft look good. thing i like, nice and easy install and usage, almost a 1 button press to get everything working, or customize anything. i am sure that someone will do a repaint of the smaller anz a/c in time, otherwise you do get full airports (even if they are the default scheme).

Hope it helps a little (oh i use it all the time).

Thanks, J. How easy is it to create new liveries? Is there a utility to convert from existing FSX ones? I'll certainly miss the ATRs ...

i can't really say haven't looked into it, i do know that you can download paintkits, that will make it easier. you can apparently use any a/c you have and add them to a schedule, or create a custom one,

Looks interesting. A couple of questions:
1. Is there any way to get this without having to go through the 1.6Gb download?
2. How does this compare with My Traffic 2010 - assuming that there is someone familiar with both packages!

as far as i am aware you can buy the cd/dvd version from flight1, or if you want i can burn a dvd for you for the cost of postage

from what i have read the ultimate traffic 2 is slightly better coverage wise, but no military traffic or helos. can't compare diretly though

So ... basically a flight plan to/from any military base won't work? I was thinking of being able to create some plans for my CS Herc from NZWP to (say) NZOH.

Have you tried creating a custom flight yet? I tried really hard with my old version and never got it to work. I gave up and put WOAI on instead!

I downloaded the UT2 manual but it looks just as bad as my old one. It just doesn't explain the relationship(s) between parking slots, airlines, carriers and so on. A step-by-step tutorial about setting up new airlines then creating/assigning flights to them would be nice.

i aven't tried, but from what i understand it is not to difficult, as the ut2 is based on flight plans, you create a flight plan first, then assign an a/c to it, and apparently you can use any a/c you have installed. you can use any airport installed as well from what i remember, so your wp to oh should work fine. i will see what i can do when i get some spare time and dig up some info

p.s see here for my review, the dash 8s are covered with anz paint jobs

Tsk tsk Adam...its not that hard.. winkyy.gif I use TTools myself (search for "ttools202.zip" at avsim etc) to compile flight plans.
For tutorials on how to create the raw plan files themselves do a Google search for "how to create ai flight plans"
PM me if theres anything you arent sure about.

no worries

also there is a power pack that has been released free. it is used among other things to import flight plans from other packs, and creat your own flight plans for use from the ground up, having looked further into the utilities you can assign any aircraft you want to fly a schedule that you have created, bear in mind of course that if you use flyable aircraft, that it will hit your performance.

hope that helps a little, i will see if i can get some free time to do a mini how to guide

Hehe ... I think I even created the odd plan (a while back .. when I still had a brain laugh.gif). I've since reinstalled FSX on my new Win7 HD and haven't got round to adding all the "geeky" FS stuff (yet) ... the SDK, TTools and so on. I've been too busy actually enjoying my clean [slick] FSX winkyy.gif

Thanks for the offer of help - I may have to take you up on that!

Nice review, Jason! Looking forward to your "how-to's". I may even revive my old UT, have a play, then think about an upgrade.

*If* I were to be adding a schedule for (say) Whenuapai ... would the first step be taking a peek at the NZWP AFCAD to see what parking slots are available - so that I can assign UT parking codes? So ... would the complete procedure be:

1) Create a new airline (called RNZAF).
2) Create a new carrier (eg. 40th Squadron) <???>.
3) Allocate parking codes to that Airline <??>.
4) Create the UT flight plans.
5) Assign my CS Herc repaints.

As far as I remember, I couldn't create a new airline properly (in UT1, that is) and I got confused with the whole parking code thing anyway!

yup that looks about right, you can create a flight plan using the fsx planner, and assign that for your ai a/c to fly
