Your most annoying FS moments!

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Kelburn » Wed Apr 07, 2010 11:18 pm

I was flying in 30ft from touching down. Having done the perfect RNP approach on the WILCO 737, for once I got the finals turn onto 23L correct without underturning etc. I was about to touch down and then FS9 crashes (in vista). Not more than 2min ago.

Amazingly annoying cause I got the approach correct this time!

What's your most annoying FS moment?

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

angry.gif must be something in the air tonight Kelburn. Not as complex as your flight, but....there i was in my beloved Lama wub.gif feet away from what was going to my first real confined space landing.....having already had a great flight. Nice start up, into the hover, good transtion, managed to keep it on course and at altitude....no over torque....damm near perfect..........last 10 or so feet...screen locks up!! pirate.gif

I was just about to re boot.....when it comes back to life...(somehow the sim kept going while the screen froze), so all i saw was an outside view of me and the Lama buying the farm.
Im going back to gliders.

Flying a 3 hour journey on one of my world tour legs, i had been carefully taking arty snaps, landed the plane, then checked out the screenshots to see a large black rectangular shape on the rear fuselage. Pictures ruined, plane model couldn't be shown and i had to backtrack, find another model and fly it all over again.

It could be that you had either the LNAV or VNAV function still engaged through the flight director? Sounds like a problem I had with WILCO's 737. I found that with LNAV still selected (whether active or not) just as I was about to land it would crash. So to fix the problem I just added to my checklist: LNAV, VNAV disengaged - Check. Maybe try it out and see if that is your problem?

Anyway my most annoying FS moment was that last couple of months, when for some reason my normally very stable FSX started to develop horrible stutters every minute or so. I tried EVERYTHING, repaired FSX, repaired Windows, Drivers, and all the visual settings I could find. Anyway ATI just released some new drivers and it seems to have cleared the problem (as well as just about doubling my performance/framerates). So I'm happy again now! smile.gif

Just those annoying occasional crashes to desktop that always seem to happen at the most inappropriate moment, such as seconds before landing on a particularly challenging approach, or halfway through an 8 hour transoceanic flight.

I joined the CTD club this week. Couldn't find any error message, it just quit randomly. Grrrrrrr. I removed planes and scenery one by one till I found the culprit, some USA scenery. Fingers crossed, it's taken a while now to put everything I took off it, back on lol.

My most annoying FSX moment was trying to find the sattelite package in the dark with the EH101 sling because I took too long with the 1st package getting back to the airport. Another one was chasing the boat with the R22 which can never sit still. pirate.gif

Hmmm. for me would be my first Real time Atlantic crossing in the PMDG 747 with FS Passengers... about to touch down and my old old joystick had a splutter and pretty much stopped working, just long enough for the plane to hit the deck too hard and the wheel ripped off. (You'll be familiar with these if you own FS Pas....)

Have had numerous annoying moments with FS. The most recent being with the Wilco 737 Pilot in Command. Have been doing really well with this bird over the past couple of weeks. Now when I try an instrument landing it crashes to desktop... Have given up on it now and moved on to the Captain Sim 767. A lot of things I learnt on the 737 PIC have made the transition to the 767 a lot easier. Am now pretty confident in programming the FMC and yesterday did a full auto land at NZAA.

Most annoying moment would have to be when my texture files corrupted and I had to do a full reinstall.

That's *exactly* my story too ... but with the Wilco A320. Behaved itself for ages, then would crash FSX almost every time a few seconds after landing. I struggled on with it, as it seemed better away from NZAA - and finally clocked up enough hours (on vANZ) to translate to a B767. I also bought the CS one (I'm a real CS fanboi!!) ... and love it .... but have yet to manage a cold and dark start without resorting (finally) to the CTRL-E key. Maybe I really should RTFM winkyy.gif

I have been doing the majority of starts in the 767 from cold and dark. You'll find it fairly straight forward if you've been flying the 737 PIC from cold and dark. thumbup1.gif

This is were shared cockpit in multi-play really comes into it on its own , although you cannot join and share some more dynamic types the default is a good training tool for ones who dont no much about cold starts .

Replying to Your most annoying FS moments! this time last year.... having the council dig up your street , hit a power cable , cause a spike and power surge and fry your computers , there reply .... I don,t no ! it was,t me

Well ... I ended up breaking a habit of a lifetime .. and actually RTFM laugh.gif

It's quite satisfying stepping all the way through the procedures in an utterly anal manner and finally lifting off, isn't it? CS have done a fine job with the 767, I think.

Have you ever had the radio comms sort of "lock up" on you? The ATC window works (after a fashion) but you can't tune any of the COM frequencies (or the ILS) ... though NAV1 and NAV2 work OK. I managed to retune them via the CDU but it still didn't kick comms into life. Weird. I scoured the CS forums, but no mention. Maybe I'll post it up there.
