Did some spring cleaning tonite and uncovered this....something i was playing around with about a year ago. Basically a half plane kit mounted on a framed board.
This wont work for a lot of aircraft because the wing sticks out from the frame, and i havent as yet found out how to make a 3d wing 2d....but look 3d.

The 104 (sorry about the missing bits) came out quite well, and the mig (swing wing) was heading the same way. It works for some choppers as long as there are just two blades (same problem as the wing). I sold one , an F-111 with wings swept, but didnt get any pics. The same guy sent me a 1/24th scale VW Golf kit to cut up....turned out well.

Anyway, just thought i would show you, and if anybody can figure out how to make a DC-3 wing look 3d without sticking to far out of the frame....let me know.
Before you bring it up.....no...its not always possible to get 2 of these from 1 kit, it depends on how the parts are moulded.
There is a guy doing this in the states, but he mounts them on a mirror, with some amazing results....mine are a little more basic.
Have a look ....

Cheers

Marty

In my earlier life (?) I owned and had a big interest in yachting..... The beautiful shape of many old classic yacht hulls lent itself to the half-models in frames,
they looked really neat and were quite popular.

Marty.. Has been a while , making plastic kit-set but today,s modeling has changed so much .

Bazza .. Yachts , today most my time was taken up getting information and details for a RC Pocket Battleship , ..... almost the same as going Yachting , but sit on the side off the bank off a lake in the middle off Christchurch ..... My Battleship against Brother and Son Richard/Hunter new build ... be a ways yet , but could be a major conflict at Lake Victoria in Hagley Park Christchurch .

The obvious problem, as you mentioned in your original post is going to be the wing structures.

Anything outside a small delta type section, IMHO is going to look pretty naff sticking out into the room
sideways from the frame. Probably for this reason no-one else seems to be doing it.

Possible solutions :

Hang a pot-plant from the tip,

Use it as a coat hanger.

Sorry I can't be more constructive... winkyy.gif winkyy.gif

No worries Bazza.....your right, can you imagine a 747!! ....a coat hanger all right. This thing will only work with (as you said) small delta's, or swing wings (swept) and choppers (some).
I thought about a semi 3d front on thing, but then you get the perspective problem with the tail....blah blah. Ive just sectioned a 1/24th scale r/r merlin and it looks good, and i suppose a radial front on would be ok......lots of interesting options. Whatever.......its fun. winkyy.gif
