hey all I have started repainting Jens B. Kristensen's Short Hythe for FSX into RNZAF colours,..I have emailed him to see if there is an actual Military Sunderland in the works and have so far had no reply so have made do with this. I havnt painted the engine nacelle tops yet and its a work in progress but im making inroads with it..

If there is no proper sunderland model when I finish repainting this I might upload it..

Ian, the Sunderland still sits outside at MOTAT. Exposed to the elements and looking a little green in places. Looking at it from a distance, you'd still think it would be flyable.

Be the oppitune time to photo her all over , that ripple hull effect affect would give this Sunderland a real 60s look smile.gif

Fantastic Ian - have been thinking of contacting Jens to see if he would consider doing a Sunderland since seeing his Solents - then this Hythe came up and I thought Mmmmm maybe he would put the front and rear turrets back. I had thought of asking if he would consider installing a second ADF housing and a second antenae king post in the model as well to make it one of 'ours'.
I have a number of black&white pics showing details but no good colour pics. ( I could email some to you). Maybe we could even con him in to putting a couple of radar domes under the wings.
Do you think it would be worth me trying to contact Jens as well as yourself - I could probably get a few more folk that flew in a 'Real' aicraft as well.

Yep my old man flew our Sunderlands in the RNZAF before going to the states to bring back our first P-3. I have emailed Jens about the Sunderland but have had no reply. If you want to give it a crack and email him I hope you more success than I did lol,..it would be awesome to have a proper model to work with as the other models available like stuart greens are good basic models but Jens are much better in its dimensions and proportions :-)

Its very simple , We can invite Jen's onto the forum , since the RNZAF used the boat well into the 60's should consolidate all info , since Jen's has such an approving model and many who flew it here around the coasts , may be the largest resource off Sunderland technical guys in the world , course the painter , 'Adrian and Ian Brausch ' are no slouch's either ..... throw there names in the Flightsim.com search engine .. you would have many hundreds off models from the years of New Zealand flight sim , adding to their works , the sound pack for the recent KBT P-3 Orion . smile.gif

Here are a few more pics,..still WIP but making good progress. The outboard floats have alluded me so far and the engine nacelles have strange texture mapping but il do what i can thumbup1.gif . My old man Ian Brausch hasnt done any flightsim stuff for many years,..probably since I first uploaded in 2000 unfortunately..he has been helping with gathering pics and searching for the many aircraft books he has in his shelves lol,..the texturing of this Hythe model as the flying porcupine has a special place in his memories smile.gif

DANG! that bow wake taxing in cool.gif , .. weird .. work last night , work mate mentioned the Wigram Museum and was to take his grandson in and show him around , mentioned the Sunderland in the Chathams , early days Graham work setting up comm's for Tele communication , had a chance to check out redundant Sunderland cockpits on the Island .

See what i mean , the team effort - one dose the work , the other dose the research ! smile.gif

Adrian , She looking Superb , I'll have to dig up a few old photos i have and post here , i managed to get on board MOTATS 'Big White Bird' mid 80's , only now i wish i had a real Camera !

The out board floats , brilliant , 'hey' i do like tidal stain on the hull at the waterline , another area at a later stage would be looking at cockpit textures or a complete rebuild something that could be past on to Jen's B for all his models .
